I did join a short time ago. I recently purchased my car last month and wanted to learn more about my car from the wisdom of everyone on here. I have read thru a bunch of other posts and have direct messaged a few people on here for advice. I am grateful for the information people have provided.

First, you seem to be conflating him and I as same person. You quoted him and responded to his troll accusation. But then you went on to say that he shouldn’t have called you out publicly. That was me.

Second, you referred to my calling you out for using an immutable trait as a slur as “punching down.” That’s not what that means. You don’t just get to redefine terms to suit your whims. Punching down is what you (and your wife) did, referring to a whole class of already-persecuted people as a casual way to insult others.

Finally, stating that you wish I would’ve contacted you directly about the slur shows that you still don’t get it. Language like that has to be called out very publicly. Doing so isn’t only for your benefit. It’s not just to teach you alone not to do it again via public humiliation (although that is one of the goals). The point is also to establish one of those societal standards that you complained about earlier. It’s to make it clear to EVERYONE reading this thread that - while it’s technically legal, 1A protected speech - it’s socially unacceptable to speak that way because it hurts others to do so. And it’s also to show members of that persecuted group who are reading this thread that there are people who support them and who don’t think a defining trait of their personality is just an off-color joke.

I didn’t view your post as an intrusion at all. I agree with you that he very well may be a troll.

So far, I’ve taken him at his word that he really is seeking advice about a Mach-E that he owns, and just also unfortunately decided to make a bigoted joke about “x behavior is gay” in the process, then doubled-down as people often do when they’re called out.

But if at any point it becomes more clear to me that he’s just trolling, I’ll block him and go back to talking about our awesome cars.
