I’m not convinced the differences in batteries is why the Lightning charges more consistently since the MME shares the same cells as the ID4 from the same factory.

Instead, I think there’s some HV component in the MME that is undersized for the demands of a performance EV but perfectly suitable for a compliance EV with 100kW charging.

We all the know the story that the MME began life as a basic compliance EV with mediocre specs but then they changed the design with 18 months to go. What we ended up with is an EV that absolutely maximizes what the Mustang team could do with the hardware they were given and the timeline they had to meet.

You would think Ford would be looking to swap out those components though, especially with competitors like Ioniq 5 and EV6 on the market. We've seen no indication of that being improved in a mid or new model year update yet. They clearly prioritized getting everything right on the Lightning for good reason, but a change to the Mach E to follow suit would be a natural expectation if it wasn't the battery pack.

I do think if it was just software they'd have at least said if not done that via OTA by now. If it's thermal limited I would have expected them to have pushed an update to blast the cooling as soon as you plug in, for marginal improvement if nothing else.

Although a work truck should have continnous power to carry payload, etc....
It doesn't mean it needs sports car speed like 0-60 fast time.....With that said, the GTPE if given that moniker and price, it should have GOBS of power which is decent (IMO)

Since it was Ford's first full EV, I think they weren't sure about the battery reliability thus the Limiter is there to prevent the What if's-------> if something does happen.....Ford is or was doing it to prevent any hiccups in case this new battery heat up too fast.....
The truck has to pull 10,000 lbs up a 6% grade without overheating. That is a crap ton power.

The reason why the truck is so quick is a consequence, not really something that Ford designed into the vehicle. The motor and battery size come with the added benefit of a quick sprint time. They aren't really trying to be a sports car....it just comes with the hardware.
