Anyone know, or have a resource, for the percentage of factory tint. I’d like to go darker on the windshield and front windows, but NY only allows up to 30% of the light to be blocked. I called a tint shop today and he told me, never having seen it, that factory tint was already the max allowed. I’m skeptical.

I went ahead and had mine tinted to match the back windows, And they are technically illegal here. But I've done that with a few other cars and never had an issue.

I'm pretty sure to match they went with 20%

Confirmed today. Just got my front 2 tinted to legal with 3M. Installer said rear are already max allowed, but don't block UV heat. Could tint over with good tint.

Here in NY, tint check is part of the annual inspection. If it doesn’t pass, no safety sticker, so no registration renewals. Otherwise, I’d just go for it.

According to NY, backs can be as dark as I want. It’s the fronts they limit to 30% tint / 70% light passage. If the backs are 30%, then I’d be legal to make it all match.

Astonishingly, here in NJ ZEVs don't require any inspection at all. Years ago to save money they gutted the inspection staff (and thus the process) so that it is basically emissions and lights. Since ZEVs have no emissions, they don't care enough about headlights to make you take it to the inspection center.
