For those with this issue, I'm going to assume you already did the reboot (down volume simultaneous with next button for 5 seconds)
Indeed, I did the SYNC reset, the reboot, etc. I also tried the fuse 11 pull, tried with and without the PaaK, and with and without the keyfob...nothing made a difference.

Ok - sorry, my time in tech support compelled me to ask :)

The FDRS software indicates a number of modules need to be updated, including the ACM and GWM. I'm updating those to start, and we'll see how it goes.

Just updating the ACM and GWM already fixed the Connected Vehicle Services issue! No need to swap the GWM module, as @Mach-Lee predicted.

While I’m at it, I’ll catch up the OTA on the other modules and APIM using FDRS. Not sure there are enough acronyms in that sentence…

My question for any Ford technicians or @Ford Motor Company is this:

If I plug my car into FDRS and the first thing it says is that there is an update available for the GWM, why would this not be the very first thing the dealer would try before ordering a new part and scheduling labor hours to replace it?

This is after scheduling an appointment on a Thursday morning, not hearing anything but “hopefully we will know more tomorrow” on Thursday COB, then at Friday COB telling me they can’t figure out what’s wrong and they need to order/install a new part?

My spider sense is tingling.

Sounds like your local dealership needs to get edumacated. That's a pretty sad indictment of their skills.

I don't really want to throw someone under the bus at a service shop for not fully understanding how OTA works, etc. The part that gives me pause is that checking for updates should be the default, first move.

Meanwhile, I wonder what conditions need to be met to go from 6.1 to 6.2...

? Welcome to the rabbit hole of dealer dysfunction…

They just want to replace parts because that’s all they know how to do. They don’t understand or believe that software alone could fix something, so that would be the last option. There are a lot of technophobes at dealers that would absolutely despise using a computer. They would rather drop a transmission than suffer through figuring out how to reprogram a module with FDRS. Plus they make more money replacing stuff than reprogramming.

The above is why I think Ford dealers need technicians that specialize in diagnostics and software updates only, because they are a completely different type of person/mindset than most who do mechanical repairs. It’s like asking a surgeon to do their own accounting, or having a professional athlete do the marketing for a game themselves. Arguably completely different skill sets. Finding a multi-talented person that can do mechanics and programming at the same time is rare.

Glad you fixed your issue yourself before any harm was done. Did you already have a Mongoose?

Dealers are still trained not to do software updates unless specifically told. It’s been like that for many decades. They are behind the times through, hopefully there is some movement on proactive software updates when Model e goes into effect next year.

6.2 requires the GWM update first, and Ford needs to allow 6.2 to install (6.2 is on hold currently due to issues).

Yes, I got one when I got the car, actually. I hadn’t planned on using it so soon. What I wasn’t prepared for was the power supply, so I had to find one of those first.

GWM definitely updated. I’m sure 6.2 will magically show up on its own when it’s ready, now that connected services is all functional again.

Actually, you already installed 6.2 with FDRS when you did the APIM update after your GWM. It’s still available in FDRS for install, they just put the OTA on hold.

Hmm... I'm pretty sure the FDRS said APIM was 6.1. I know when we checked, I was queued up with 6.1 anyway. Am I getting my version numbers confused?

6.1.0 is just a GWM update, and if you were queued to receive it OTA then that’s the last thing it would show on your software updates page.

Any updates you manually install via FDRS do not show up in the software updates page in your car. I installed the 6.2.0 APIM update on my car and it’s the same version as what you have now.

6.3.0 is the TCU update, 6.4.0 is SCCM, 6.5.0 was canned due to issues, and 6.6.0 is all the powertrain updates. That’s all we have right now, but again anything 6.2.0 and beyond is currently on hold OTA. You can install it all via FDRS still though.

I see. Since I updated all modules, I'm also guessing I have the updates for 6.3.0, 6.4.0, 6.5.0 and 6.6.0, as no further updates were at all available on FDRS.

The only weirdness was my FordPass app got a notification that there was a blind spot detection fault.
