One of the reasons I love Ford vehicles is the exterior keypad. I do a few outdoor sports where it is handy to leave the key in the vehicle and simply use the exterior keypad to get back in. But it seems like leaving the key in the Mach e would let anyone get into a take the car... not good.

Im wondering if anyone has tried to use a faraday case or bag for the key? Im hoping this would let me leave the key in the car but not communicating with the car.

I have this one. I haven’t used it as you suggested, but rather to avoid communication between the car and the fob while home. Have had a few ‘no key detected’ messages when inside the car, so I think it would work for you.

Sorry if I'm missing something, but isn't the car itself a faraday cage? So if you lock the fob in it, you won't be able to get in without another fob, PAAK, or key pad code.

Leaving the key in the car will not let people in if you lock the door with the keypad.
Really? Im going to have to try that... not sure Id trust it with the car sitting in some remote river launch for a few days though.

So if PAAK (thank you for teaching me that) fails to work, how do you get access to the keyfob in the frunk?

Also use very similar pouches bought from amazon as the other posters and they work. Have tried having them right beside car and will not unlock or turn on.
Bought primarily for home but wife keeps her key in it in person, so even at work or while out, it's protected.

Seems like as others have suggested, you could already lock key in car with keypad, but i'd probably still get one as they are good to have.

I guess I assumed that the car would sense a key within range and allow anyone to open the door.

When you set PAAK, you are required to setup backup door code and password to start the car.

Try it. I did by accident. When I first got my Lightning, I locked the key inside before setting key code, locked it by pressing to lower buttons on the keypad, and could not get in without getting my 2nd fob.

Note that the commercially-available Faraday bags attenuate the key’s signal. They do not completely prevent it from getting out. It’s a good idea to remove the battery from the key if you are going to be leaving it in the car. Personally, I would never do that since my father was a hyper-paranoid master locksmith. ?‍♂?

No need to buy a faraday bag. Just wrap the key in aluminum foil.
