So, funny story: I got a message on the Ford App that Blue Cruise had been downloaded and activated on my 2021 Mach-E. However, except for a few moments when I had Blue Cruise as I drove between two exits on Hwy 101 in California, the feature just didn’t work.

Trying to troubleshoot the problem, I checked all the settings for Driver Assistance and, best I could tell I should have Blue Cruise and it should be working. I was completely stumped. I tried turning the features on and off to see if that would reset them. I tried to reproduce driving on the same stretch of road. Nothing was working.

Finally, I narrowed the problem down to the fact that the Lane-Keeping feature was not working, even though it was turned on in the settings. Not only was it not working to support Blue Cruise, it wasn’t working generally. I thought maybe it traced back to a front-end collision that I had earlier this year and that the sensors weren’t working or were damaged. Because Blue Cruise seemed to work intermittently (well, once), I thought the problem might be a loose wire that wasn’t reattached properly during the repair.

I was going to call the Ford dealership tomorrow to make an appointment to have it looked at.

This morning, while driving, I was again frustrated that the Lane-keeping feature wasn’t functioning. Then I remembered that among the buttons on the left hand side of the wheel were two buttons that toogled the Pre-Collision and Lane-keeping features on and off.

Bingo.

I pressed the Lane-keeping feature on and I finally had Blue Cruise.

Note: Drove about 10 miles with it on in light Sunday morning traffic, without navigation turned on. Seemed to work pretty well, although it seem to bias it’s lane keeping a little to the left. Otherwise, it did a good job maintaining the curves, and it only told me to put my hands on the wheel once.

Personally, I think it is an interesting, but not a must have, feature, given you still have to keep your eyes on the road at all times. I think it would probably be most helpful on a long trip, allowing you to take your hands off the wheel to stretch out a little.
