This probably has been discussed at length in other threads but..

Playing around with the Build & Price tool this fine print popped up:

Important Information:
Price the dealer is willing to sell the vehicle for in a purchase transaction and corresponds to the estimated dealer selling price for the vehicle displayed in the Pricing Summary. Excludes available incentives (including AXZD-Plans Pricing for qualified customers), governmental taxes and fees, title or registration fees. All current available incentives (including AXZD-Plans Pricing), taxes and fees will be applied at purchase. See dealer for details, residency restrictions may apply.

Dealer Deposit:
'This is the deposit your Dealer will receive to process your order. Your Dealer Deposit will be applied towards the purchase price of the Vehicle. By paying a Dealer Deposit, you are agreeing to the Dealer’s selling price for your selected vehicle. Dealer Deposit refund policy may vary based on your selected Dealer. Please ask your Dealer for their refund policy before you place your order.

So have dealers been promising to sell for at least close to price listed in the tool?
Do dealers have a consistent refund policy?

I guess I should ask each of the relatively local dealers before I submit an order.

Yep. Many of us are buying the car at MSRP or with plan pricing (if you are a participant and the dealer is also participating for this car).

You are on the right track: contact the local dealers whose ford.com price looks best to you and retain an in writing agreement from them that they'll honor A/Z/X plan pricing if you qualify for one of those, as well as their deposit refund policy.

In my case, I simply emailed the EV specialist salesperson and am keeping copies of her replies indicating no dealer markup, refund of deposit if I don't want the car, and x-plan is accepted for this car.

Then I placed my reservation in 2019 (and eventually placed my order in 2020).

Agree with @macchiaz-o. I confirmed via email with the dealer that the price would be MSRP and that the dealer would accept X-Plan pricing. No issues.

The way Ford has structured the buying experience, at this point you have all the leverage. Ford has given you the allocation, so you can specify any dealer you want. If the dealer says it won't honor X-Plan pricing, go to the next one.

The tool includes a line "Adjustment to MSRP". ADMs are shown there. Of course, if you re using 'X' plan, ADM is not allowed. If using A, Z, or X plan, you need to talk to the dealer.

No - some dealers will give you back your deposit and others will keep it.

Most are buying at MSRP or slightly below with a Plan Price. Most dealers are “refund fully refundable”......but there are a few shady ones.

I emailed Chapman Ford in Philly and they replied:
From the build tool, it would just be that price plus taxes and fees. We will not up-charge you or anything like that. If we are special ordering you a vehicle, the deposit would be nonrefundable, but we do not process the order until you are 100% ready to make the order and purchase it.

Seems to make sense...
