I stopped off at an EA charger today to try out Plug and Charge and see what L3 charging was like with my GY-PE. Battery was at 56%. Plugged charging cable into my car and P-n-C started its handshake. Less than 3 seconds later it began charging. Charge rate ramped up to 46KW pretty quickly and leveled off there. When the charge level in my HV battery was 74% the charge session ended with a charge station fault. I didn’t try to re-start the charge or anything. I just left for home and plugged into my L2 charger. ?

Bummer. Station faults happen sometimes for no apparent reason.

I've not fast charged a lot, I think I still have like 30ish kWh on the free charge. That said, what charging I have done has been pretty good. I had one time, and the family was with me, where a EA charger would not start. I just moved over to another bay and off it went. I have had one or two times where the charge rate was kind of crappy.

That said, I think our EA stuff in SoCal is a little more reliable from what I've seen.

46 is horrible -- you should never continue a charge at a plug with that low a delivery. The GTPE will typically level down to 85-ish KW when you're nearing 80%. Otherwise, it spends a long time a little above, then a little under, 100 KW. When I've found a bad charger, I've just moved to another one and all's generally been good. Pro tip: I always just look for the newest EA plug at the installation. The newest ones generally work the best. But in general, I find EA charging all along the I-5 corridor from Bay Area to LA, as well as the stations in LA, quite reliable.

Getting Car Scanner (an Android app) and an OBD-II reader was a game changer -- let's you hang out in your car and look at your phone to get all the live charging info without needing to keep pressing EA's screen on the charger. For example, I have this set up on my phone, check out the top row showing KW going into my car, and SOC on the right -- notice it was still going at 85 KW at 70% SoC:
