App works for setting max charge level. Maybe operator error? You just need to select "charge when plugged in".

Has anyone figured out how to make charging stop at 90% (or any other number less than 100%) when using “charge when plugged up in”?

And/or, has anyone figured out how to set charging to start any time I plug the car in between x and y, when the sun is out and I’m using my solar panels? If I set my “preferred start time at, say, 8am and my stop time at, say, 8pm (when the sun is out) if my car is not plugged in at 8am but gets plugged in at, say, 10am or some other time I get home, then it won’t start charging until 8am the next morning. My schedule is not always the same. I need my charging to be flexible, but I want it to always stop at 90%. I don’t want to set a new “preferred start time” every day. Why can’t I plug it in whenever I need to without it always going to 100% in the “start charging when plugged in” mode?

‘Charge when plugged in’ means ‘ignore all defined time and charge percentage settings and charge right now to 100%’.

Set your charging schedule/charge level in the car to be anytime and 90%. Don’t setup the schedule in the app.

I think I understand your question. You always want to limit charge setting to 90% regardless of set times. To do this:
1. Ford Pass App
2. Charging
3. Preferred times (no need to set times, just a req'd sequence)
4. Select "preferred charge setting"(hilite little circle, goes black) then press on same line "preferred charge setting, a screen pops called charging location.
5. Scroll down and you will see max charging level, move slider to 90%, hit save.

The tricky part of all this is selecting preferred charge settings and pressing on this same line again. Ford does not give detailed instructions. The Forum is best source of info

I know how to set the charge level to 90% in the app, and now I’m being told that it’s impossible to restrict charging to anything less than 100% if using “charge when plugged in.” So I’m back to my question: is it possible to basically set it so if I plug in my car between 8am and 8pm (when I would be using my solar panels) it will start charging? It appears that if you are forced to set a preferred start time (eg, 8am), and if you plug the car in an hour later(eg, 9am), it won’t start charging until 8am the following morning. I want it to start charging anytime I plug it in between 8am and 8pm. (when the sun is out). Am I out of luck? I can’t always plug it in before 8am and leave it for 5 hours. It might be later in the day. Why would Ford not let us set a % parameter if we plug in whenever we choose? Especially when it recommends only charging to 90%? Why force us to charge to 100% if we elect to charge whenever we want?

Selecting “Use preferred charge settings“ will do exactly what you want. It will start charging immediately if you plug it in during your allowed charging times and will stop charging when it hits your setpoint (90%).

Hmmmmmm. I thought I tried that yesterday and it said it wasn’t going to be done charging until tonight. Boy, if you’re right, problem solved. Just give it a window in which ya want to be able to plug in and charge (preferred start at 8am, and preferred end at 8pm) and plug in any time during that window and Bingo! If you’re right, where do I send the box of chocolates?

Depending on the current state of charge, the charging rate, and how many hours are left in your charging window, it may not have enough time to finish charging. But that’s how it works.

Even though to do so went beyond the end time, when I previously set preferred start and end times, it would always keep changing beyond the end time if need be. It never stopped on the fixed end time. Go figure.

05reinvent & Jetson, thank you for the dialouge. From what was written, I was able to figure out how to get my wife's 2023 Mach-e to charge as we want. It would appear that setting a "preferred charging time" is mandatory. IMHO Ford implemented poor UI for charging. Both in the car and especially in the app.

Another pet peeve is that in car, when charging, there is no indication of input Kilowatts. I know that information is in the app, but at the most basic level, this should be in the car. My wife really does not care, but it just pings me the wrong way.

Again, thanks for the information. I look forward to reading & learning much more here.
