In all of the pre-delivery promotions, Ford has been constantly repeating how the MME is an always-connected vehicle. They haven't, though, said whether that connection will be free of charge for the life of the vehicle; in fact, in one video with the design team talking about the new SYNC interface, they were careful *not* to respond to a question about ongoing costs.

So, what do people here think? Will the connection be free for the lifetime of the car? Will some parts be free (e.g. OTA updates) but others (e.g. traffic-enhanced navigation and charging station status)require payment either immediately or after a trial? {Jonathan}

Im thinking that it will be connected to your wifi at home get the updates and then when its on the road you'll have a paying service otherwise if you don't have the paying service it'll use whatever it's predownloaded from the wifi. Also I don't see why you couldn't tether from your phone since everyone has a smart phone these days so I could see it being 3 options

Looks like connected navigation is free for 3 years. After that I'm assuming there's a subscription cost.

In car WIFI hotspot is free for 3 months or 3 GB whichever comes first. Then if you want more in car WIFI data there are plans available from AT&T.

other than the "mobile share" these all feel just a bit steep.

I am on a grandfathered plan but I think it would count as "Mobile Share" for this purpose based on how my existing 7 devices price out today. We'll see. I'll probably end up turning it on "just because" but given my main tablet has LTE, and the gf's has LTE, I am not sure the in-car hotspot truly adds a lot of value.

I actually bought one of the few MFT-supported USB modems, but never even tried it out with a SIM. It's just sitting in the glovebox.
