You don‘t say where this “offer“ came from. But dealers always lowball when quoting a trade-in or outright purchase offer. Don’t assume that is the actual value. Check out Kelly Blue Book wholesale, private party and retail values for your car also.
Does anyone really get what KBB shows?

I have no such problem. A BMW straight 6 is as smooth as any EV and hardly any louder at speed. Far better than a Model 3 (maybe Tesla has improved them since model year 2018).
Do you own an EV?

Well, as a near-future Mach-E buyer, I saw the title to this thread, jumped in and read all 14 pages.
The conclusion I came to, is that the title should have been:
"Future Mach-E Buyers, buy used and enjoy one of the best bargains in EVs"
or Maybe:
Mach-E owners, let's try to knock down Tesla MYs

Just a whole bunch of posters, basically, saying the same thing, but arguing, back and forth.

Well, I, for one, has never cross shopped with Tesla. I absolutely hate the shape, build quality, no instrument panel, and Musk! Never even considered range or DCFC charging. I have no patients to take a trip with an EV, and stress about charging. I make frequent trips to Cincinnati from Atlanta, 1000 miles RT. I am not going to stop 3 times and hope a DCFC is working and available. And to add 3 hours to an 8 hour trip. That's more adventure than I need. I just borrow my wife's Buick Enclave Avenir, with air suspension, adaptive cruise control, lane centering, heated/cooled/massaging seats. And it can easily do 500 miles on a tankful. Problem solved.

So, a big thank you to Ford for poor resale values. I will buy a Black MME- GTPE, maybe '21-'22 model, with low miles for $36-40K in the beginning of 2024, and enjoy it.

My mother, who was born in 1928, road tripped across the US with her family from Maryland to San Francisco in 1938 in a 1936 Ford Sedan. My grandfather was in the Navy and was assigned to Pearl Harbor. While it is a great family story, at just 10 years old on the trip, she had no memory of running out of gas.

In 1929 there were approximately 143,000 gas stations (not gas pumps) in the US; just 10 years after mass adoption of the automobile circa 1909 (i.e the Model T). The EV has been available for over 15 years in the US. Current internet data says there are approximately 163,000 charging ports (53,000 charging stations) in the US (CCS + Tesla). If the ratio of EV ports to gas stations to provide equivalent refueling coverage for EV vs. gasoline is accurate at 4:1, I'd say early gas station proliferation vastly out matches early EV infrastructure proliferation.
Thousands of folks have driven across country in an EV. I pretty much read 3-5 social media posts every day about it. Mostly Teslas and Rivians... then at least one a week from every EV brand.

I'd rather NOT drive across country in an EV... just like I have zero interest in driving a janky tractor (aka ICE car) in the city.

We've never taken any trip where we had a destination and not a path. As someone who also enjoys planning, I'm sure we never will either.

Today, you can take all the trips you want in an EV as long as you plan - with the caveat that you can quite easily come up with a near impossible EV trip. Come Spring 2024 with 15,000 SuperChargers, it will be harder to come up with an impossible trip.

Some on this forum, including those that don't own the car, or don't own it any longer, want to focus on all the potential issues, including the ridiculous one of value on an unsold asset. My bond funds are down 16%, but I'm not selling - so who gives a damn?
I do agree you can take the EV just about anywhere and looking everyday at the resale value is the same as looking at your stock portfolio every day.

Need to plan but so what and of course easier since I am retired. If you need to make a 24 hr run to Florida from NY due to time, the EV is not for you, take An ICE or even better fly down, airfare is pretty cheap.

seems EV’s are just not for millionaires .

I’d rather not drive across the country period outside of a once in a lifetime do it for the sake of doing it type event.

I just recently sold my 2 year old GTPE with 45k miles. Here's the offers I received:

Ford Dealership #1 – 27k
Ford Dealership #2 – 29k
CarMax – 23k
Carvana – 31k
Driveway – 32k

I ended up selling it to Driveway and cutting them a check for 20k to take it off my hands.
No one in this thread has said they expect a vehicle to appreciate. I keep a vehicle for an average of 2.5 years. That's by choice. This thread is just informing those interested in buying a MME that it will depreciate faster than other EVs. That's all. If you want to keep it until it drops, good for you. Where's the harm in letting people know the facts behind the MME depreciation for those to which it matters?
If you know you want to keep a car for only a few years before selling, I think leasing is often the better option since it protects you from unanticipated drops in value, and if it’s an open lease, being able to purchase it at the end let’s you capture the upside if it depreciated a lot less than the car company thought it would.
