Good RockAuto experience

I’m tapping out of the “who has the oldest 12v battery” game (we bought our MME in May 2021).

My local dealership quoted me $240 for a new BAGM-H3. Retail is $130: so I asked, perhaps this included installation? Nope! That’s just for the part.

I checked this forum for alternative vendor recommendations and several people mentioned RockAuto. $89 plus core and taxes.

Unfortunately, FedEx did their worst to the poor battery and it was delivered damaged. I submitted a damage report and RockAuto sent a new battery for free the next business day, and it just arrived in pristine condition. Manufacture date is 12/24 (3 months ago), which is great.

Summit Auto Racing usually has the lowest cost batteries, but they wanted $140 plus $18 core charge. I typically use RockAuto for all of my maintenance parts because their prices are the best. I was surprised to see the battery listed for $87 plus $18 core charge! That's an excellent price! How do you handle the core charge?

Hey, can you let us know how much the return label costs you through RockAuto?

I sent the following message to Rockauto : I am looking to buy a Motorcraft Battery BAGMH3 and trying to determine the cost of the return shipping label at your discounted price from zip code xxxxx to return the core, but as I understand I need to place the order first before I can purchase the return label. Could you give me an idea on the cost of this return shipping label? Thank you

The following is their reply:
Good Afternoon,

RockAuto is not able to provide return labels for battery cores. You will have to purchase a label locally if you wish to return the core. The shipping specs on the box should be about 13 x 12 x 10 inches and 28 lbs.

so, this contradicts their own FAQ on returns. I'm going to also guess it will cost more than $18 to return at retail. Probably be better to keep the old one and sell to local vendor at per lb price.

If you mean the intial FedEx stomped battery, they didn't ask to have it returned (!!)

If you're referring to the core return, I was going to drop off my old battery (and the FedEx damaged one) at the local car parts store. They'll only give me $10, but then I'm not paying to have lead bricks driven or flown across the country.
