Hankook Tires for Mach e AWD Premium

I wanted to share my experience in case it helps someone else avoid the frustration I've been dealing with.

About six months ago, I purchased a set of Hankook tires for my 2022 Mustang Mach-E AWD. I'm not an aggressive driver at all, I drive almost exclusively in Whisper mode, accelerate gently, and the car is used mainly for normal commuting.

When the tires were new, they were definitely quieter than the OEM tires. However, I noticed the ride was a bit bouncy and cornering/handling wasn't as confidence-inspiring. I could live with that because my priority was a quiet, comfortable ride.

What really disappointed me was the tread life. The tires went from 10/32" to about 2/32" in only 6 months, which was far sooner than I expected.

The biggest frustration has been the warranty process. I've been working with Hankook and the dealership for over a month trying to get a treadwear warranty claim approved. The claim is being challenged because my first tire rotation was done at 8,000 miles instead of the 7,500-mile interval required by Hankook's warranty. Unfortunately, no one at the dealership mentioned this requirement when I purchased the tires. Had I known, I would have rotated them sooner. It has been a very frustrating experience.

I also noticed that these tires use internal foam for noise reduction. While researching the issue, I came across several discussions from other owners who reported the foam separating inside the tire over time. I can't personally speak to how common that is, but it was another concern that made me rethink buying these tires again.

For comparison, I've owned Michelin, Bridgestone, Continental, and Goodyear tires over the years, and I've never experienced tread wear this quickly or had such a difficult warranty experience.

Based on my personal experience, I won't be buying Hankook tires again. Spending around $1,400 on a set of tires and then dealing with premature wear and a difficult warranty process has been extremely disappointing.

it's very strange experience. I used them on 2 MMEs (GT and California Route 1). Both set lasted both sets lasted 50K miles that is in line with manufacture warranty. I did perform rotation every 10K miles and alignment. I maybe wrong, but based on your picture the thread gone unevenly.... I know one MME owner who is happy with Hankook tires. on another hand, my friend who run them on Tesla M3 performance to change Hankook tires every 25-30K miles.

The uneven wear looks to be an alignment issue. Alignment and tire pressure are two most common issues that cause tires to wear quicker than normal.

Interesting experience. Just as a point of reference, my OEM Primacy tires lasted 2 years, 30k miles and needed to be replaced. I drive VERY aggressively for an AWD Select.

I switched from those to the Hankooks, which are now almost 3 years old, have 37k miles on them, have actually never rotated them, and the mechanic at inspection said they looked great and would last a lot longer.

You have an alignment issue, and it’s bad enough that you should have noticed it yourself long before it got this bad. Hankook has every right to require you not only to rotate your tires, but also to maintain the car’s alignment. I would deny your warranty claim.

BTW, you didn’t say how many miles you put on them in 8 months. That’s an important piece of information.

OP said he bought them 6 mos ago and rotated at 8,000 miles, but the wear took place over 8 months???
But yeah, looks like alignment (or underinflation, not a good image of the inner tread)

Yeah totally agree. But I usually keep 39 psi as recommended and when installed from dealer it was aligned so pretty this is the defective tire problem

You are not considering that you may have gotten a bad alignment, or that something “knocked” it out of alignment. The before and after specs from the alignment would give you a clue as to how good of an alignment you got. And it should be obvious which corner or corners is way off, especially since you had stretched the alignment interval.

That sucks, I got these tires and really liked them on my Premium. 50k warranty, they were done at 30k, I had purchased them at Americas Tire and they prorated the next set no questions asked, very easy.

I have them as well. Mine are at 30k now and are on track to reach 45-50k before they hit 3/32”. I find them to be very comparable to the Primacys.

I would take the Mach-E to an independent alignment shop and get an alignment check, if the alignment is in spec, you can use this to support your claim, if it is out of spec, you might still be able to use it in your claim if the indie shop finds that the alignment you got when you bought the Hankook was faulty.

For them that 7500 miles rotation is criteria so they are not able cooperate on that for the claim . Even though alignment was done when I installed it.

Same here my OEM Primacy lasted for more than 50k . May be I got deffective tires but the customer service from them is nightmare. And the worst thing I did is to get installed from dealers. Usually I never do business with them this is the first time. I usually buy tires from American tires or Big o Tires.

I would completely understand if Hankook or the dealer found an alignment issue and showed me evidence of it. However, that's not what happened. The dealership inspected the car, measured the tread, took photos, and submitted the warranty claim. The reason it's being denied is because my first rotation was at 8,000 miles instead of 7,500 miles not because they found an alignment problem. Probability of Hankook being good tires is less based on this case. If hankook works for you, good for you but not for me for sure.

How good are the other tires? Tread depth, abnormal wear?
