My Mach-e has been at the dealer for five weeks with a battery problem. The "Reduced Powertrain Malfunction" and "High Voltage Battery Warning" messages popped up when I was picking up my car after the HVJB replacement. The car has been sitting at the dealer for five weeks and the dealer has indicated that Ford is not communicating with them. I'm getting the feeling that Ford regards the Mach-e as a failure and is focused in other areas.

I have had my Mach-e for 3 1/2 years but I don't want to own an "orphan" car. I'm not in love with Teslas but I think they might be the only manufacturer that can be trusted to not walk away from the category.
I was away and Mach-e just got bricked by the 12V battery being out. My dealer was great and came to the house to repair it. They understood, when most of the other repair people did not that a 12V battery being dead will make all the other systems in the car just not work. But the fix was easy. It’s new technology and so you have to understand what does and does not work. Texas is good for EV’s. Yes that is in part thanks, to Tesla. But also thanks to the fact that the state has put a lot of energy into renewables.

In Texas for charging there is a lot of high quality, NOT Tesla high powered charging and I see plenty of Mach-e as well as every other brand (Mercedes, Hyundai, etc) under the sun lined up to charge.

So EV’s are not going away. The Mach-e is the most affordable most luxurious car for the money. It’s a very cool design and fun to drive. It’s as nice as the really fancy Tesla at a fraction of the price.

We live both in Texas and Oklahoma, so have learned that just Everything EV is not OK in OK. (I suspect cronyism in the EV contracting.) So I keep my EV in TX. I have a home charger in OK which was dirt cheap and easy to install, but I worry about getting stranded and we live hours from a major city. So if I go someplace and drive around all day, that’s a real possibility as have come across plenty of charging stations that work badly or not at all in OK. Or you get there and it’s kind of a fake charging set up. (Do I smell fraud? Perhaps I do.)

This is rarely the case in TX. We live in Austin where EV’s are a way of life for many. EV’s are popular in all the urban centers. It’s not just Tesla’s which has a big network, it’s everyone. There are so many to chose from and my sense is the market is driving the quality now. So likewise. Just pick a great dealer and work with them. It’s going to be OK. (Just not in Oklahoma for the time being.)

I love Mach-e owners that I meet, because we are friendly and helpful to each other. It’s a fun breed of people. We are like sports fans. We like to talk and hang out and share stats and tips. So let’s support each other and the brand and keep it going.

Electric Vehicle Sales Surge; Ford No. 2 EV Brand

Electric vehicle sales increased 61 percent in the second quarter with 23,957 sold and are up 72 percent for the year. With 44,180 total EVs sold for the first half of the year, Ford brand electric vehicles trail only Tesla.

Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning are drawing customers from other brands; 62 percent of F-150 Lightning and 54 percent of Mustang Mach-E sales are new to Ford.

Mustang Mach-E sales rose 46 percent over last year and are up 58 percent through the first half of the year. Year-to-date sales represent Mustang Mach-E’s best performance since launch.

Sales of America’s No. 1 selling electric truck, the F-150 Lightning, totaled 15,645 through June of this year. F-150 Lightning sales for Q2 totaled 7,902, up 77 percent from a year ago.

The Ford E-Transit was America’s best-selling electric van with total first half sales of 6,301, more than double the amount sold during the first half of 2023. During Q2, E-Transit sales were up 96 percent. This represents E-Transit’s best quarterly sales since its debut in 2022.

Three of every four E-Transit sales this year are from repeat customers as businesses see for themselves the lower maintenance and fuel costs that come with an electric vehicle.
I doubt they are giving up, since they are now #2 behind Tesla. And that's mostly the Mach E doing it.

Think that was old news. Hyundai/Kia may have taken over IIRC in North America. With the stunted EV environment here, I don't take any stock to that ranking. Not to mention the volume gap is somewhere around 10x difference.

Globally Ford EV sales is no where near top-tier.

You can't beat a good conspiracy theory so.....

When mine was in for the door module it was parked next to an EcoBoost coupe. The wheel bases and track are very similar. Now, as three years in, the Mach E has undergone lots of evolution in motors, now I believe Ford inhouse (from a recent Munroe video), advances in GT performance, better understanding of power transfers and heat etc etc....

I don't think Ford has or will give on the Mach E, but I can see in the next few years it having a couple body dropped on it. After all the work on the SUV that hasn't tarnished the Couple heritage with the recalls.

Job done, a high performance, quick and reliable EV Coupe for the UK and Euro markets to start with as petrol engines are restricted.

I'm really surprised to see Ford is number 2. I still hardly ever see other mach e's and I've NEVER seen another GT other than mine. Maybe one mach e per week if that and I'm in Colorado, Boulder County. I see so many tesla and can never tell what year they are ?

Here is an update on the situation. After reaching out on several social media sites, I heard from Ford Customer Service (the fastest response was from sending a message through Facebook). They contacted the dealer and kept me informed. The car was repaired a week later. I can't say whether Ford contacting the dealer helped or not. (Ford does seem to pay extra attention if the problem has existed for over 30 days.) The problem turned out to be a bad wire in one of the battery control modules. The wire was making intermittent contact with the result being the car thought the battery was overheating and shutting down the system. There have been a few times in the three years that I owned the car that I would get fault messages that went away on their own. It could be that this bad wire - making intermittent contact - was the cause of that. Before cars were as advanced as they are, I used to do a lot of my own repairs. The hardest problems to solve are the intermittent ones. I should also remark that given the amount of electronics in all cars, this kind of problem could happen just as easily to an ICE car. FYI, I have attached the service record.

Thanks for the update. Here’s hoping that’s the end of your issues with the car. :)
