Hi All,

I’ve had my GTPE for about a month. When I first got it, I would notice a little headlight icon in the lower left of the instrument panel near the compass whenever the lights were on. Suddenly it’s gone, and I don’t understand why. I have tried turning the lights all the way off, all the way on, etc, but no difference.

You can see in this picture that the lights are clearly on, but there is nothing on the display. Any ideas?

Isn't this your headlight icon?

I think thats the parking lights. This one was next to that, and it looks like the symbol on the headlight switch: white headlight with little lines coming from it. It also had an "A" within the headlamp when it was in auto mode. Ill see if I can find someone elses post with a picture.

The headlight icon is right there in your picture?? The green one to the right of the compass.

Perhaps you’re thinking of the auto high beam indicator? In which case you might have turn off auto high beam in the settings somehow.

Ah! Thats exactly what it was, then. I had turned off the auto-high beams recently as they were a bit flaky at dusk. I didnt think of that. I had assumed that was telling me the lights were on, not that the auto-highbeams were enabled. Thank you!

Thanks @E90alex, I feel a bit silly now. I’m my defense, I was assuming the double green symbol was parking/daytime lights because of the corresponding symbols on this control:

Actually, you are correct. Ford labels that symbol as parking lamps. Unfortunately if the car does not have the "AUTO" headlights turned on, that green symbol is the only one that shows up when the headlights are on. You would think we would get the headlight symbol without the "A" but we don't.

I flew airliners that did stuff like that. It was just as annoying then.

It is a bit confusing and inconsistent with the headlamp switch symbols, but Ford isn’t the only company to use the “parking lamp” symbol on the digital dash to signify low beam headlights on.

They probably do it because the high beam and low beam symbols are just very subtly different and they don’t want customers to glance and think they have their high beams on for no reason. 🤷🏻‍♂️
