Repair and insurance costs to the consumer have never been a priority of Munro, because it's not a priority of the manufacturers.

That is one fault I have with Munro Live videos, and don't get me wrong. They are the reason why the Mach e fell onto my radar in the first place and what sold me on Ford's direction for this vehicle, cooling hoses aside. Munro is focused on eliminating complexity and cost for the manufacturers they work with. Nowhere in that process does that include increasing value and quality for their customers.

Where can we add more injection-molded plastic?
Are these materials too premium for a $65,000 EV?
Where can we hide more cost cutting from the average consumer while providing no additional value to them?
Look at all these features from Rivian! They need to be charging 20k more for their vehicles, market demands be damned.

Etc, etc.
Don't disagree.

Munro's perfect car would be assembled entirely with those crappy black push clips that break all the time. His schtick is predictable: everything made of steel should be made of aluminum. Everything aluminum should be plastic. Everything that's 2 pieces should be 1.

He basically argues for disposable cars, he's enthusiast's worst enemy.

To be fair, if it wasn't for the more advanced cost cutting methods almost all cars would be a lot more expensive than they are now. That is why the more 'luxury premium' cars tend to be in the hundreds of thousands or even millions. and why you can get cheap economy cars for under £12K.

The fact is the average car today is so advanced compared to 20 or 30 years ago, they are so much more powerful, more efficient and safer. Even the cheapest cars have technology that people could only dream of 20 years ago.

Even then there is a wide range of choice for different budgets, If you want a car that isn't built cheap then be prepared to fork out the cash for it.

Counterpoint - looking at the bigger picture, used cars are also in shorter supply (thus more expensive) today because most are junk by 7-8 years.

I'm not really sure luxury cars are built much better aside from things like better materials and NVH stuff. They have more complex systems that tend to mechanically total the cars in short order - hence the phrase "nothing is more expensive than a cheap BMW."

It is the engineers triangle. You want cars to have good performance, quality built for reliability and be cheap. Unfortunatly you can only have 2 of those options.

The modern consumer values performance over reliability and almost always wants it cheap.
There are of course cheap reliable cars out there they just aren't that desirable as they lack performance

Increasingly severe climate and weather is also being factored into the insurance premium equation. That is why do many companies are getting out of places like DeSantis Land.

Climate change has very little impact on car insurance rates actually. If you look at your breakdown, the highest percentage of the premium comes from medical. Skyrocketing healthcare costs due to corporate greed are a much bigger concern than climate change to your wallet. But you already knew that.

The only part of the insurance premium that really would be influenced by climate change would be comprehensive coverage, which at least in my case makes up less than 15% of my premium.

The main reason for huge increases are labor shortages, people continuing to buy insanely pricy cars to show off when they cant afford them, and people constantly using their phone while driving causing collisions.
