Just spending ~$1000 to repair a wiring harness destroyed by chewing rodents!! Front bumper had to be removed to gain access.

I saw someone mentioned a prior post on the forum about how to block access. I cannot find that post. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'll also be looking into placing a rid a rat device. Anyone with advice on which model to get and where to mount it?

Peppermint oil. Not peppermint extract. You might need to go to some health store. I keep mint sachets in the garage, the frunk and little dabs of peppermint oil where needed it works

Brand new to EV ownership here; this is the second rodent post I’ve seen here today. Is this a common concern for EV owners? Should I be doing something?

It’s common for all cars.

Those bastards killed my Escape.

We are just hyper focused on our Mach E’s.

I use Grandpa Guss’s mouse repellent pouches in my Frunk.

Discussion in June:
https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/rodent-proof-the-cabin-air-intake-port.22435/
This is to prevent rodents from entering the cabin via the air intake port. Olfactory and taste repellents are the next best to deter rodents from other areas.
When we lived in the country I used multiple traps in the garage and they still climbed in until I covered the intake port. Take note that the mesh should still allow air to flow freely into the cabin.

If it’s in a garage, traps, indoor cat and seal your garage. Outside, you’re in their world, get oils and an outdoor cat. It’s the soy based insulation, which is used in most modern cars.

Natural born killer. The 8 barn cats on the opposite side of the garage where Otto the mme resides might have a say as well.

I use Granpa Gus’ sachet packs. They may help, but you need to change them religiously, and their effect might be temporary as well. @RickMachE is correct, however, you can’t completely block access.

I have a 5 gallon bucket of rat bait and refill my 5 bait stations quarterly. I change formula between buckets.

We have a subaru with the flat 4 engine and the mice love camping out on the top of the engine. I tried direct peppermint oil on the engine, battery, plastic trim etc and it didn't seem to work for a length of time. I think it loses it's potency quickly. We garage our cars and what finally worked was sealing all gaps around the garage door with steel wool. No more mouse droppings under the hood of the subaru and thankfully none that I can see in the Mach-e! If you park outside, as others have said, you're in their world and it's a tough battle. About the only thing you can do is try to make it uncomfortable for them to get in and stay so they go elsewhere. If you use peppermint oil satuels and/or oil, they need to be changed regularly to keep them potent. Good luck!

We have no rats in Alberta (truly! Look it up!) but I found luring mice into the garage with peanut butter on The Better Mousetrap which then kills them works ok. I have other mousetraps in the garage, but for some reason they only get trapped by The Better Mousetrap. I have four around the car.

I'm going to look at sealing the garage better, a new seal on the bottom of the door, and someone suggest steel wool.
