Saw this incendiary headline / EV hit piece today:
26 grand for a battery is a lot to ask. A lot of things come to mind.
1. Should EV insurance have electable coverage for battery failure?
2. Will extended warranty programs cover this at a reasonable rate?
3. Why is the cost so high? If the battery is recyclable, shouldn’t there be a sizable core value?
4. Is Tesla just being a shitty company? Or would Ford charge the same amount for a new battery?
It seems to me that for the foreseeable future (I.e until solid state batteries come around) that EV detractors will be correct that these are playthings for the wealthy and not suitable for most people. Saddling the consumer with the battery replacement bill at a price that would buy a new ICE vehicle is a tough pill to swallow.
This is not good PR for Tesla or the EV industry as a whole.
