Has anyone else run into horribly inaccurate and slow updating ambient temp readings? While its normal for a car to take a few minutes to adjust my MME has developed the infuriating tendency to be insanely wrong AND refuse to update. 18500 miles on the car and had it for year now. This is definitely a new issue.

Two recent examples:

Sunday after church my wife and I left for lunch. Ambient temp was upper 70s. Car read 37, and kept this reading for 15-20 minutes. given the neutered climate controls in these cars it had the heat on and the only option was to lower the windows and turn climate control off.

Second extreme was leaving work today. Outside temp about 65. Car read 97. The ac was full blast and freezing me. Once again I had to turn it off until the car decided to actually read a correct temp.

Any ideas?

I've noticed it showing 100F outside temp several times (actual temp was in the 80s). But haven't noticed it reacting to that temp with extreme ac/heat.

Ambient exterior temp reading should have no bearing on interior HVAC output - something else is amiss.

I have noticed its extremely slow to update the outside temp, it takes more than several minutes outside my garage to get a reading that is close to reality. I have not yet experienced the wild inaccurate numbers you are seeing. As usual, it probably means another trip to the dealer for software updates.

Agreed, but it obviously does in my case. Well...and I am saying "ambient" but I'm referring to temp displayed on the top right corner of the center screen so wherever that sensor happens to be.

The baffling one was the 37 deg on Sunday. Everyone expects a car to read high after sitting in the sun. In this case it seemed to "remember" the temp when I shut it off at 0745. Then it sat in full sun for five hours, was restarted, and still said 37.

I have this same issue exactly. I have had instances when I pull out of my moderate temp garage, when the outside temp is frigid, and it will take the car 10min to catch up to the outside temp. Reverse is also true. Cold morning (45F) I'll park at work, when I leave 8 hours later and the car is baking in the 70F sun and hot inside all the while showing 45F on the indicator. The AC will not kick on until the external temp starts to increase, which can be 10min into my drive home.

I notified Ford, didn't do any good.

Admittedly, I am on stuck 1.71 status, so its possible this could be fixed in a software update I can't get.

Hi there! Can you send us a PM with your VIN and Ford dealership information? I’d be happy to look into this Mach-E concern on my end.

But what about me? ?

I was on 2.4.4 during the two examples I gave. Got 2.4.5 today while at work but don’t think that will affect this issue.

The sensor is in a bad spot, so a slow averaging algorithm is applied to it. I think they changed the averaging interval at some point. You might have to drive above 20 mph for 90 seconds before it updates. If you still have issues you might need a software update, I think the sensor is connected to the PCM which would have been updated in 2.4.2.

A bad reading will definitely affect the A/C and heat system until it updates.

Why? Ambient temp is outside temp. A/C and heat are/should be based on internal temp.

HVAC control uses both inside and outside temp to decide what to do. For example, it uses the outdoor temp to decide if the A/C compressor should run or not. If it's too cold outside it won't run.
