I’m sure you’re dying to know. So…
Took the red MME to the dealer this morning. It’s still there.
When I called to make the appointment, I told them I needed TSB 21-2249. I also asked them to check SSM49676 (door locks).
This morning when I dropped the car off I reiterated the same numbers.
Today, 7 hours after I dropped the car off I called to ask what was up. They explained that the car wasn’t throwing any codes so they were waiting on someone at Ford to call them back. I asked if they had gone through the TSB I directed them to and they couldn’t answer. Kept saying that the car was all up to date and therefore they didn’t know what was wrong. So I asked if they had updated the car to software version 1.7.1 as this had fixed the sign recognition problem in mine. They couldn’t answer that either.
I got a call back about 30 minutes later telling me that the car does fall under TSB 21-2249 but it will take until after close of business today to complete the update. So they’ll start it tomorrow.
This really chaps my ass. I took the car to them at 8:30 AM. I told them what to do. They started from scratch and ignored my suggestions and came up with exactly NOTHING. Rather than contact me, they left a message at Big Blue and waited for a call back. They may have had my car for a week without doing anything.
I get not listening to every Tom, Dick, and Harry with an internet connection. I’m a nurse. If I listened to everyone with a webMD Doctorate, I’d be killing people right and left. But if someone comes in speaking intelligently about something that I’m new to, I’m going to damn well listen. Give me a ventilator dependent child with a congenital heart condition, and you can bet I’m listening to the parent’s every word about what’s wrong with their child. They know more than me. I should think being a Ford mechanic or service rep staring at a Mach-E would be treated the same.
So, when you go to get your dealer to fix your speed sign recognition problem, perhaps print out the TSB and take it with you. You might want to make sure there aren’t any words over 2 syllables on it first. Or edit it to pictograms.
NGL, I kept checking all day for an update from you. Sorry about the awful experience. Let me guess, no loaner either for the duration?

Hopefully they run the proper TSB procedure in the morning and it fixes the issue.

Should have taken @louibluey up on his offer to go use his FDRS rig. Crappy day to drive today but it would have taken less time to drive 2 hours to his place, do the update, and drive 2 hours back.
As far as a loaner, I didn’t ask. This dealership has hooked me up that way before. I guess if I would have stayed there, breathing down their neck, maybe they would have listened to me better or moved faster, or given me a loaner to make me go away. But we’re currently a three car, 2 driver family. So sending one in for a day or two doesn’t cramp our style that much.

And the saga continues. Hope you don’t mind me hijacking your thread @Tanger but I figure you want to hear my tale of woes as well.
Dealer called me this morning at about 8:30. Said they started the update and went home last night. Update failed and they would restart it again this morning. Work got busy and I didn’t have time to bug them.
Caught a break at 3:30 and asked for an update. Was told the second attempt at updating failed and they were waiting on a call from technical support at Ford to tell them what to do. But in the meantime I could come get my (her) car.
So, two days without the car and they accomplished jack ? AND I have NO idea when they’ll pull their head out enough to figure out how to do an update.
They ran the PAAK update on both cars with no problem, so I thought I could trust them.

That sounds awful. Sorry you have to deal with it. I really appreciate the live updates. Though they make me nervous about taking mine in.

Brought my car in for TSB 21-2310 at 7:15AM Tuesday. They called me at 2PM to tell me I needed to leave it until today because they were still troubleshooting/diagnosing I don’t know what. Blew me off all day today until I got a text that it was still was being worked on and wouldn’t be ready today (Wednesday). I looked at my Fordpass App and noticed that my car has been asleep since I dropped if off yesterday so I asked point blank - IS MY CAR BEING WORKED ON - The answer NO it hasn’t been in the shop yet because only a few mechanics are trained to work on this car. I said then you flat out lied. About 15 minutes later he calls me back and says maybe I can have the car before the weekend and they miraculously found a loaner for me which they denied me from the beginning. Oh, and make sure you bring it back with a full tank of gas!

These experiences are exactly why some of us have gone DIY for the updates. It took months to find a dealer in my area to do updates (SSM, TSB). When I found a dealer who would update an MME, it still took a month to have the service appointment, and then they would have left it overnight without a 12V charger, had I not caught that. They were great otherwise, really nice folks, and I would trust them with my car, but it is just so much easier now to do the updates myself.

I suspect that dealers are not following the SSM, TSB, FDRS directions closely enough, probably most common is skipping connecting the 12V charger/power supply.

I wish I had the confidence to do this myself because the folks on this site that are undertaking this are probably more technically skilled than the mechanics at the Ford dealership. They are not properly trained for this work. They work on combustion engines, brakes, etc and this is not suited to their training. Since I leased my Mach e I’m really leery to attempt this. I just hope instead of “fixing” the problem they don’t brick the car and blame it on a defective part that takes weeks to get

Also check that the camera above the rear view mirror is clear of dirt and debris. If it the view gets blurry the system will start failing.

It's really not that complicated. Most of the reports on here indicate that the dealers don't want to do the updates. The techs are trained. They have been updating modules for well over a decade. Warranty flat rate times suck in general, and especially for module updates. The dealer and the tech make a lot more money doing customer pay work. Some dealers will prioritize CP work almost to the exclusion of warranty work.

Honestly I’d rather pay someone on here to do the updates for me. I would trust them more. Might even be a lucrative side gig for someone. I’m on Long Island, NY and I’ve seen very few Mach e’s around so doubtful finding someone willing to do it

I'm sure you could find an independent repair shop with the tools and FDRS license.
