Then again, this might be good news. I recall several months ago Ford coming out with a statement saying they would allow Apple and android to “deeply integrate“ with the infotainment center.
I wonder if this is how Apple will integrate CarPlay2 with the Ford infotainment system?

As a 15promax user that's suffered from the wildly off base GPS and CarPlay wifi connection choking and stuttering I'd be happy if they just took the 15 pro's 'ultra accurate gps' just down to 'accurate' as an ios18 feature.
I did get the unfortunate task of replacing my 15promax out of pocket yesterday so i have replaced my launch day 15promax with a hopefully better same phone and some jackass in Italy might get more than lost with it's wonky GPS if they get it activated.
“it's wonky GPS”. Their wonky GPS

I really wonder why they choose Ford to showcase that instead of the much better and feature rich Rivian App. They already support widgets in the Lock Screen.

Apple Maps does not appear to support NACS in iOS 18 Beta 1 - Plug Type for the Mach E shows only J1772 and CCS1.

Under networks, I can force it only to Tesla Supercharger, but even then, when routing, it chose an EA station to charge at.
FYI, I did submit this improvement suggestion through Apple's Feedback App - FB13844349.

I'm sure it's already on their roadmap somewhere, but it can't hurt in case it's not.

Do you know that it’s not crappy as well?

Mine actually seems better with that last update.
last update of Ford Pass?
Maybe it's important to say that I am living in Europe and it takes forever to get updates here.
For the car as well for Ford Pass. Ford Pass 5.0 in Europe? Oh hell no, of course not.

My experience with PAAK isn't really good.
Especially when I am using Apple Car Play.
"No key detected" errors.
Or the door will not open.
I gave up with PAAK.

My guess is that this isn't an iOS18 MapKit specific issue but more of just adding support for a new plug type to what they already have for Ford. Once they get around to doing this it would work in both iOS17 and iOS18.

I think you answered your own question. Ford is known to not support a widget where Rivian already does. More dramatic effect. ?‍♂?

For what it's worth, I used PAAK very sparingly, given the horror stories that I heard around the time I first got my car (almost two years ago). I've slowly been using it much more and haven't had any issues. Its detection range for things like unlocking and opening a door when starting with the rear doors isn't as good as having the key fob, but otherwise it seems to work perfectly. Host device is an iPhone 14 Pro. I'm not sure when the greater stability came about given that I was not using it regularly - and to this day, I only use it exclusively once every few months - but it seems pretty solid now. Hopefully your experience improves with what ever updates gave that added stability.

Unrelated to the above, I just thought of another benefit to having CarPlay 2 integration: better future-proofing. If automakers won't allow us to upgrade the chip modules in the cars, that's going to be something that begins to hold car owners back from newer software features, or improved performance. But if the car's screens are just mirroring your phone, and your phone is handling all of the more intensive processing, then you're better off. Sure, with time there would be newer sensors and features, but otherwise we all upgrade our phones far more frequently than our cars, and I'd guess that our phones have more processing power than the modules in the cars do. Your phone might still become outdated within a few years, but at least your car won't be.

Anyone taking the plunge and install the new iOS yet?
I typically wait until the end of June for the first official beta. The Developer Beta is usually plagued with bugs and drains the phone's battery quickly because lots of debugging is enabled.

My advice: Wait about a month before installing the beta on your everyday devices.

I always install it on day one. I did this time again and have zero issues! When I asked the question, I was more concerned about FordPass and PAAK still working lol

So far so good!
