I booked/reserved Mach e premium extended range 2 days back.

I know am very late to the party. I wasn't sure about mach e at the time of launch as i felt it was little overpriced.

I currently have a Tesla model 3 and a Ford focus electric. I am all about BEV. Focus is leased which is ending mid April next year.

I always wanted to replace it by a crossover to give us bit more space. I thought i will wait till some ev SUVs are out before making the decision, specially Mustang Mach e. I really liked the look of it since the launch and i am really happy with my current Ford focus electric so i trust them to make a great electric vehicle.

I was thinking if no other option i would just get Model Y. When vw ID4 launched, I started looking into it and it felt good enough SUV for the price and made a reservation 2 days later. Now, given the recent reduction of cost of Mach e, i feel that it would be best bet and would prefer it over other EVs.

Spending 3 days to read back all the threads, it feels that i may be too late to order one now.

if i don't get it in time, i may have to get a id4 if i they are delivering before April or else Model Y, which i really don't prefer as i feel it is too similar to model 3 which i already have.

Not sure if Ford allows extending of lease for couple of months. I can do that if i can get mustang by june. Other option might to buyout the focus electric and sell it later.

What do guys think?

Welcome to the forum. You are a FAST reader! Yowzers! ;) Sometimes it feels like it'll take me three days to read just one day's worth of macheforum posts.

I don't lease... But others here have mentioned that you can generally extend a lease, especially if you're going from a Ford lease to another Ford vehicle. You should probably call the leasing customer service # and ask them about this.

I hesitate to add this because you said you put in your order a few days ago... But your headline reads "Is it too late to order now?" so I'll go ahead and put this in here:

Before putting in an order, I'd check with prospective dealers and get a response in writing indicating that your order is refundable. Most dealers want a $500 or $1000 deposit when ordering through the ford.com interface. If you order in person, the deal might be different.

Either way, if you have to put cash down, then as long as it's refundable, you can delay the decision on which car you ultimately are getting. That way, if it doesn't seem like the Mustang will arrive by April, then you can back out of it and go with the id.4 (or something else).

Or you could go with your other plan to buy out your lease. That's what I did on my first car (and the first and only time I ever leased). You won't have to deal with those artificial buy/trade/sell timelines, and you have more choices on how to sell/trade/disposition it, since you'd own the car instead of renting it from a bank.

Yes i think title is misleading. I did order 2 days back after learning from all helpful forum posts and made sure the deposit is refundable. So thanks all for that.

I will wait till its close to lease expiry before making a decision. Also by that time will be able to test drive the car.

I just wanted to get an opinion on what other members think of the probability of getting mach e in or around April on a order that was placed now.

Also, yes i agree buying out gives me the flexibility but i just wanted to avoid the sales tax, if i end is selling it within a month or two.

By All , i meant just skimmed through a lot of most popular threads. All the posts that i read helped me make the decision to go ahead and order Mache.

Now, just waiting to see if Ford can procure a battery pack for my Mach e 2021:cool:

Yes, Ford will allow you to extend your lease by a few months. As you said, having a Mach E order in with refundable deposit doesn't hurt you, and you might as well keep it until you hear more from Ford. While we have some insiders here, we don't actually know Ford's schedule for production yet because Ford's schedulers haven't made it yet. Sit tight; there's plenty of time before April (or July).

Two points:
I don't think the odds of getting an id.4 by April are any better than the Mach E. The Mach E starts deliver in late 2020. That doesn't mean if you order one now, you will get it in 2020. Same line of reasoning probably applies to the id.4. They'll both be in heavy demand in much of 2021.

Since you have a Ford lease, your dealer will be especially keen to keep you in your lease long enough to buy your Mach E. I recommend talking with the dealer about it now.

The difference is that i reserved ID4 on the very next of the launch so i have a feeling i should be one of the early deliveries, which is not the case of ME. I would definitely prefer a Mache.

I will just wait till Feb-March to see how things are progressing in terms of deliveries and decide.

There's likely some sort of lease extension offer with a confirmed Mach-E order. Your dealer *might* know (you might have to push them to go look it up).

We have no way of really accurately knowing the timeline for orders placed today. June seems totally reasonable though. I really doubt every Mach-E out to June is spoken for.
