getting 30-40 miles overnight on L1 while you sleep is 'worth it' to me just from the peace of mind factor. I mean.... why NOT if there is an outlet handy and you bring your mobile charger with you? I'd rather grab a few miles overnight to get back with plenty of spare range than clut it close and maybe pay $.40/ kwhr at a highway side DCFC.
It certainly depends how easy it is!

I don't think I'd pack a 100 ft 6GA extension cord to do it, but if it's right there, sure!

Most, if not all, of the overheating stories that I've seen are instances in which the owner is using the included mobile charger daily, or as their sole charging solution. The Ford mobile charger was not designed for that.
In two years time, I have for the most part exclusively used the Ford Mobile EVSE with zero issues on a 240v outlet. (Truth be told, ONE day the light bar was partially, 25%, glowing orange on a hot day this summer in the afternoon in my garage). In addition, I've only DCFCed a handfull of times over that period. So while not an absolutly every day use the mobile EVSE has served me more than adequately.

Further, Tom Moloughney @ State of Charge YouTube Channel has personally recommended this device for the needs of "most owners" of the MME, and he owns nearly every non-commercial EVSE ever produced. I've seen other comments about how the device is perceived as substandard, but my real world evidentiary observation for simple HVB refresh has been to the contrary. Maybe I could get a reduced charge time with an other EVSE, but in an overnight session that matters not to me in the slightest.

The Ford EVSE works well until it doesn't. I am still surprised to read posts from those who have never had theirs overheat, but that is great if that happens to you. IMO there are enough reports of it overheating (including mine) to rate it at POS level. Mine has even overheated during a 120V charge. However, I do keep it in my frunk with a 120 volt extension cord just in case I need an emergency 120 volt charge.

I have found that the Ford navigation system provides very accurate charge levels at destination. It is a little pessimistic, and it assumes I will be traveling above the speed limit, but I like that. I would rather know the worst case scenario rather than an optimistic one. I always arrive with a charge above the original estimate, but within a few percentage points. For route selection, I definitely prefer Google Maps. Except Google seems to want me to avoid some toll lanes, not others, even when I am already on the toll road. The Ford nav sends me down that same toll road, no problem. So neither is perfect.
