Two nights ago, I was pulling out of a parking spot. When I switched from reverse to drive, the car made a lunge forward - like it was engaging cruise control. Driver aids were not active Hit the brake and stopped. The dash lit up with powertrain error, no one pedal, reduced power error messages. Tried turning on and off (a couple of times) but the powertrain / reduced power error persisted. Drove home, carefully, and one pedal worked and everything seemed to be working. Wrench was lit in the dash. App sent me an alert and the same powertrain error message was there with instructions to contact the dealer. Called and made appointment for tomorrow. Had to use the car - pick up the dog from the groomer a mile away - and when I got in, the “wrench” was gone. No more error message in car or on app. Seems that the Mach-e is self healing? Cancelled appointment but made a note to check when she goes in for tire rotation and software update in a few months. Weird. Anyone else had an error that fixed itself?

The code will be stored, and it would be a good idea to have the dealer investigate when you do your service (let them know date/time). This does two things: 1) it records the incident with the dealer (Ford) and 2) if the code points to the source of the glitch, it can be investigated. In the meantime, drive on.

Agreed. On sporadic problems that the dealer cannot repeat, they cannot perform a service. They will not spend any time/money trying to find a problem.

Have them scan the code and get it recoded on their paper work. And then have them clear the code. If it happens again, then they have a better idea of what is going on and they can get authorization to perform warranty work (if it is warranty) from Ford. If the problem drags past the warranty period, at least you have it recorded that they occurred during the warranty period and you have a fighting chance that they will still cover it.

I had a sporadic problem on my 2016 GT that I started tracking with the dealer at year 2. They were kind of jerks, but I made them record everything (by the way, that 50 year old dealership did not survive the pandemic, but mostly because of poor service). When the car finally threw a code, it was 6 months after my warranty. Ford fixed everything under warranty when they agreed that the problem I was reporting was due to the same manufacturing defect related to the code (required a partial engine rebuild). It was about $3000 in labor and $500 in parts, all covered.

A recent over the air software update warned that there could be warnings to take the car into the dealer. A wrench would show up and we would get messages from the app about problems with the car. The instruction said to ignore all the notifications that they would go away. I know that doesn’t answer the problem you had when the car lurched but everything else seems to indicate that you got this over the air software update that I think I got April 15.
