Can someone tell me if all Mach E's come equipped with a leg kick to open the trunk? I have tried to open the trunk using a leg kick but have not been successful. My Ford sales guy didn't know anything about it. Is there a chip that is needed for this? Thanks for the help!

The kick-to-open feature was "removed" from 2022 and beyond model year MMEs. If you have an early 2022 car the hardware may still be installed and it might be able to be activated through FORSCAN. If you have a 2021 premium or GT the kick-to-open feature should work.

The 2021 models did. The 2022 models came with the hardware, but it was disabled (though it could be enabled with FORScan.). Nobody has reported whether or not the 2023 models come with the hardware.

i forget the history, why did they keep the hardware in but disable the software? i had thought the hardware wasn't available due to supply chain / chip issues?

Many people hear hypothesized that it was because of chip shortages, and it was repeated enough times that people assumed it was fact. But I believe the unofficial word through back channels ended up being that it was lowering Ford's reliability score since it didn't work that well for a lot of people. But I guess it may have been more expensive to go through the process of removing the hardware from the assembly process than just leaving it there. I'm curious to see if it's still there for the 2023.

When I filled out the JD Power survey, I listed the Kick to Open as 100% reliable. Up until that time, I was using the fob almost exclusively. The several times I tried PaaK, Kick to Open hardly ever worked. If Ford removed KTO to improve their reliability score then PaaK should have been tossed as well. Could you imagine the uproar if they did something like that? :)

That sounds just...... mind-boggling to me. To disable a FEATURE of the car because of reliability scores? I guess I'm not surprised that Ford did something like that. I am very surprised that they didn't really disclose it to customers?

I just got mine and was kicking under the trunk for a good 30 seconds yesterday too, like a fool. Oh well, not a big deal.

We asked sales rep and tested when we received the MME. Not a deal breaker so we just accepted it was not available.

Even when it's working "perfectly", it still only works perfectly about 50% of the time.
