Just spent 30 minutes on the phone with Ford, who were completely useless. I have a 2023 MME GT, that I've had for 5 weeks.
The live traffic does not show in Navigation. (It says there are no alerts, there are no colors, etc). What I have tried/looked at:
- Navigation is enabled in connected services through 2026.
- Traffic is enabled in the Wrench/Settings/Traffic section. I have toggled this off and on
- I have put in addresses 3000 miles away just to confirm there would be at least one traffic condition..
- The person on the phone had me do some sort of reboot sequence (Volume down + Right 'seek' for 10 seconds) and had me press the lock door button while the door was open, and some other random things (as if they were messing with me)
- Person on the phone kept telling me to click on the 'Traffic on Map Tile'. I don't know what that means - I have no menu option named that. She couldn't send me a text or email or send me a link to such a thing so I could see what she was referring to.
- She suggested I take it to the dealer. I feel like that should be last result, this should be fixable remotely.

Not sure what else to do. I asked them to force a software update over the air, the lady claimed she couldn't do that, didn't think that was a thing, etc.
I am on power-up 4.2.1 and I know there are much newer versions available like 6.2/6.3)

In short, this was a very frustrating experience, and hoping the bright minds here can save me :)

It sounds like something is either stuck or is not communicating. I don’t know if the traffic information comes over satellite or over the TCU, but you could try removing the TCU fuse (number 11/12 in the passenger footwell fuse box) for 10 minutes and then reinstalling it. Or you could try disconnecting the 12V battery for 10 minutes, which would reboot everything. ?‍♂?

Hey, go to the navigation app and check what maps are installed on the vehicle. Do you see a NA(Server)?

What happens if you try to open the weather? Does it show it?

If the answer is no to both, I had a similar issue. Had to take to the dealership and got a new APIM.

I see an NA map but it says client, not server, and Weather is greyed out. Also, what's an APIM? (edit: I looked up what it is)

Not sure if this is a different path to things you’ve already done, but the instructions I have found mention downloading the FordPass app, entering vehicle details, and activating the modem via the app.
Thanks - yeah, we're way beyond that now. I think @spicy_taco is likely on to something. I have a 'video support' appointment with Ford in 15 minutes, will show them the Weather and maps thing that was mentioned in spicy_taco's post and see what they say.

I'm curious though since you have a very very long trip planned, maybe you're not seeing anything due to the time?

For example, if I put in a route from Minneapolis to Austin TX, it shows me no alerts or traffic issues since the areas with traffic are just too small to see at a wide view. Any crashes or other hazards are so far out in time, it wouldn't matter at all by the time I would arrive to them, so they are not shown.

Maybe this is the same logic Ford nav is using? To me that is what I would expect.

I don't use Ford Navigation, but from what I see there it seems like it would be expected result.

Also there can always be data outages and so no matter what you do with the vehicle, data may not be available. Could be system maintenance, or other situations. So had this issue been happening for a long period of time? Or just started?

I only tried this after failing to ever get traffic on any journey of any duration throughout my 5 weeks of having the car.

Does other navigation apps show traffic in the areas you're expecting Ford nav to show it?

Just to note, the lady is right about not being able to force a software update OTA. That isn't a thing for their support teams. You would need to take it to a dealer to have updates re-ran. (They would use FDRS to reprogram modules.) I really don't think this is a software update issue. It's likely a settings issue or connected service issue.

In the vehicle if you to settings and check connected vehicle features, what options are turned on?

If you press the "voice button" on the steering wheel and ask for weather, does the car tell you local weather and have some local weather show up on screen??.....

All - thanks for all the suggestions - I missed them because I was on a video call with Ford. I must say, that was a great experience! So much better than just calling - the ability to just show her what I'm seeing on the car was awesome.

Better yet, she figured it out! It turns out that in Connectivity/Connected Services, under Connected Vehicle Features, The Connected Navigation toggle was disabled. (2nd to last option). Not sure if 1) it was always disabled or 2) I disabled it at some point myself (extremely unlikely) , or an 3) an OTA update disabled it, but either way, after I toggled it on, I got both traffic and weather.

I'm super happy now and hope that others in the future find this and 1) use the video chat and 2) check to see if the toggle is enabled. :)

That's why I asked about asking for the weather through the "voice" button......this same thing happened to me when I picked up my new '23 Premium in June......I could not get a response when I asked for the weather but did get the message that there was a problem with connected services......at that time there was a problem with big Ford......a call to connected services solved the problem......part of the problem was also not getting traffic updates.....glad it is solved....
