What do you guys think of a sticky where all the components of the Mach E are listed with the manufacturer and country of origin example:
Battery Pack - LG Chem Korea/Poland
Inverter - LG Chem Korea
IDM - Borg Warner - ?
Display - Visteon -
Brake Calipers - Brembo - ?
Brake pads - Brembo - ?
Struts -
Coil Springs -
Links -
OS - QNX - Canada
Speakers - Bang & Olufsen - ?
Voice Recognition - Nuance - USA

Could be interesting.
The IDM comes from Borg Warner. I think they call it an Integrated Drive Module. Looks like the motor, transmission, inverter and computers all in one package. The eAWD has torque vectoring apparently.

At the moment, I am curious if the rear IDM in the AWD models have torque vectoring where the IDM in the RWD models may not? Does anyone know the answer to this question?

???

The Mustang Mach-E does its torque vectoring by braking, which should keep the car stable at speed around curves. This is according to Fords snow video

Okay.....that makes sense for RWD models but I wonder it that applies to AWD?
Reason I ask the question is Ford's website says eAWD and that is Borg Warner's term for the torque vectoring IDM.

Agree. Now that I re-watch that video of BW's eAWD, it doesnt look like an IDM configuration anyway. Probably an early design and Ford said " Umm...yeah. No. Too complicated"

Then proceeded to show Borg Warner how they could achieve the same effect with fewer parts. The IDM has the motor and axle axis parallel to each other with an open differential between the two. They can accomplish torque vectoring by braking one wheel which will transfer the torque to the opposite side.

Nice. Simple. Fewer parts so it is lighter and costs less. Those folks over at Ford are clever.

So just so that i undestand correctly the motors are together with the diff? So that means the motors and diff are a) a sealed unit and b) made in the usa?

Yes to A. Not sure about B....I think so.
Here is what the IDM looks like.....possibly EXACTLY like. Will know when I get my hands on one for myself. :)

Here is a good article to explain the drive train and motors: engineering-behind-the-mach-e
Cool. Thanks.

So......
I stand corrected. That does not look like an IDM at all but separate casings for the motor, transmission and electronics.

And......
The motor axis is inline with the drive axles. One of the axles actually runs through the center of the motor.

Nice and compact for the rear axle. Could be a problem on the front motor due to torque steer issues. Would only affect the GT though.....the other trims will be fine with that design because the front motor is putting out less than 200 hp which is the general consensus for max power on steer axles before you have to introduce compensation measures.

The battery comes from LG Chem in Wroclaw, Poland, not South Korea. Honestly I'd be surprised if this alone doesn't mean the Mach-E is taxed by the US government as it comes across the border as it won't meet the USMCA's Regional Value Content 75% "North American" requirement.

I wouldn't assume the BorgWarner drive unit comes from the US either - did they announce that? They've got plants all over the world.

Wrong with supply issues and COVID batteries have been coming from South Korea to Cuautitlan Assembly. Just last month LG chem in Poland was finally able to get up to speed to start shipping to Cuautitlan Assembly.

Also, we still waiting for the lawsuit that could take a while between Lg chem and SK Innovation. Has a big effect on three future ford EV and the ID4 being built-in Tennessee.

18 months to 2 years before trial. 6 months to 18 months till verdict. 4 years (minimum) on appeal regardless of who wins.

Settlement negotiations at each step through post-trial. They'll reach an agreement ... eventually.
