The two updates are “normal” though. One is a program that gives you a second key, or it pays you for the second key you may have already purchased since 21 Job 1s received only one key.

The other is the heater reprogramming that produces more heat below 5ºF. That’s just a module update via FDRS.

…and code clearing? Yeah, that’s a scan tool or FDRS job and takes two minutes. I think your dealership is feeding you some BS.
We paid for a second key, does that mean we get reimbursed?

Under that program, yes, you should. Ask the Dealer to do it.

Yeah there is something odd in the explanation. As others said you can clear codes without touching the battery. It's also normal for the car to have codes in memory. I check my truck and my wife's MME almost daily in OASIS and her MME has 8 stored right now and my F-150 has 3. None are serious and usually just related to camera vision issues because of snow/salt build up, or some are module "performance" which happens when a module doesn't get heartbeat from another module within a certain time, which is usually just down to network congestion.

I could clear them but they don't hurt anything so it's not even worth hooking up the reader and that.

So it's best to just focus on the actual symptoms, you said the screen blanks out, so could be the APIM (I assume the MME uses APIM like most other Ford vehicles) or the screen itself. Issues there won't always throw codes and they may have to call the Ford hotline. My F-150 had an issue where the backlight on the screen would dim all the way down to where it looked like the screen was black, but at the right angle you could see the display was still on. You could get it back by messing with the interior light level, it would fade back out after a while. Ended up being a fairly common issue with '21 F-150s and needed an APIM replacement. Since doing so, no issues. But the APIM never threw any codes when this happened, was just some odd hardware quirk.

Rodent problems is all the more reason manufacturers should cover the cabin air intake port. Easy and inexpensive to do at factory, and prevents soooo many problems. There are already other posts regarding controlling rodents that you could find. Might be information helpful to you.

You guys are freakin me out with the Rodent talk. Sounds like a bad B Horror Flick. I'm just imagining going out to my garage in the morning and rodents pouring out of the car. Let's change the subject. Maybe his wire is "pinched", I'm going with that one.

Early MMEs had the same issue with screens going dim. Same work-around of messing with the brightness settings. I believe the solution was an APIM re-programming, but I am not positive on that. ??

Mine has been at the dealer for the past week and a half for a rodent ... It thought it would be a nice home  it ate some plastic near the cabin air intake, "cleaned" the antirust with his fur, and then it found a spot to die. No wiring problem found yet ! It if was not for the stink, who know when i would have found out!

To the folks with the rodent problems, did you remember to thoroughly clean your frunk to remove the shrimp smell after your tailgate? That's a very important step. Page 253 of the manual. Sheesh.

They were removing the batteries to clear all the codes. I have them in there without doing any work.
My daughter has a 2012 srt8 392 and if the battery dies dealer needs to clear codes so the windows will open among other things. Winter storage with a trickle charger works except when the power goes off. Needs a reset plug out plug in. We keep a eye on the reset for sure.
Could be your problem.

How long do you lose power?

I put mouse traps underneath the seats of our i3 and mme. The more humane ones.

Not yet. Tempting piece of cheese in each one. Five hundred dollars to fix the i3. Not covered by the warrantee.
