Hi all,
Hate to have this be my first post, however, I have had a reoccurring issue with my Mach-E and I'm stumped and the dealer seems to be stumped as well.
I've seen posts regarding the LVB and the car not starting, thought that was my issue. For the record, it's been pretty cold here in Minnesota, but the car has run great, just an expected hit to my mi/kwH. Three times now, my car has not started and I've been able to jump it with a booster pack and get it running. When it wouldn't start, the red LVB idiot light comes on and there are several other errors shown. Brand new LVB battery in November 2021. I took it to the dealer and had them run tests on the LVB to see if that was the issue -- 3 battery tests later and everything is checking out fine. When the car is operating normally, there are no errors, idiot lights, nothing to indicate there is a problem. Then yesterday, everything went south.
Drove my car 40 miles to ship something, parked, turned the car off. Got back to the car, turned it on (no errors), drove to a friend's house, and turned it off again. About 45 minutes later I went to leave and the car would not start (HVB 79% SOC, Air Temperature 10F). Great, I have my jump pack with me, and shouldn't be an issue. The car would not start with the jump pack. The friend comes out, jumper cables on the cars, would not start. Tried for 2.5 hours different combinations of waiting and starting and the car will show "ready" for about 1-2 seconds and then errors galore! Pre-Collision Assist, ABS, Auto-Hold, AdvanceTrac, Stop Safely Now, and all the idiot lights. Furious Googling resulted in only LVB problems and nothing relating to this issue. Reset the screen, nothing. Master reset, nothing.
My friend had a voltmeter so we checked the LVB and it read 12.8v on its own, 14-ish when jumper cables were in the mix. He also plugged in OBD reader and there weren't any issues with the SOC of the LVB and it was reading the same voltage as the voltmeter. There seemed to be nothing wrong with the LVB or HVB. All the accessories were working as well -- I turned off the HVAC, lights, everything I could think of to turn off, put my seatbelt on, closed the hood, put the key fob in the fob holder in the center console, talked nice to the car, said several prayers, cursed at the car, and the car just wouldn't "start". I suspect it has something to do with a connector for HVB not engaging or a control module malfunctioning. I can hear a click when I push the start button but it does not engage (or stay engaged). And, yes, I had my foot on the brake well before I pushed the start button
. I have uploaded a video while trying to start the car while on jumper cables.
Luckily, my dealer and service department is amazing. A quick text and a phone call and there is a tow truck going to pick it up today and the service department is going to work on it. Hopefully, it continues to show this issue so they can finally diagnose and fix the problem. I haven't seen anything on the forum specifically related to an LVB having charge, testing green, and the car still not starting so thought I'd post and see if someone has an idea about it or if someone else had this issue and it was resolved.
Love my MME, regardless.
