I'm trying to find a way to change the message notification sounds (texts from my phone through Android Auto). When I first looked at the user manual, they said to look at bluetooth settings on my phone which I find confusing since I'm using AA.
Anyone else run into this?

I am having the same problem. I recently upgraded my phone from a Google Pixel 4a 5G to a Google Pixel 6a. I believe this is around the time that I started receiving unbelievably loud message notifications...so not sure if it's related to the phone or a recent MME software update. That loud notification actually startles us and really annoys my wife.

I too have looked for a way to control the volume of those notifications on both my phone (volume control has no effect), Android Auto (could not find any volume setting), and my car's audio system (lowering the volume has no effect either).

My current work around is to turn off Messages notifications on my phone, so I don't get any while in my car. But inevitably, I forget to turn notifications back on and miss some messages...annoying.

Looking for ideas.

You can turn off notifications in AA settings.

Thanks Mike...playing around with my phone I also found this in the Android Auto app on my phone. Have not yet had a chance to verify that fixes the issue but it seems like it should. I will post again when I confirm. Thanks.

If you prefer to keep the sound enabled but want it quieter, adjust the Mach-E volume knob (or via steering wheel) while a notification is playing. Have someone text you several times so you can do this.
Yeah, I don't understand why this concept is so hard for people to grasp.

You would think you could adjust the volume and that would work, but it's not intuitively obvious that you have to do it during the 1/2 second Chime notification.

Why not? Since the same volume is used for a bunch of things, the only way to adjust is when the specific sound is coming out, right?

Our 2018 Fusion Energi was like this, so I already knew this.

Because by the time the chime happens, it's too late (as I'm trying to drive) to get to the volume button IF that is the ONLY way to turn down the volume. I like android, but that is the annoying part of some of their systems.
For example, when you turn down the volume on your phone, you can expand it and turn down the volume for specific things (notifications, media, ring, etc). Not the case for android auto where you have to turn it down as the sound is happening.
If you knew that, great! If you don't, it's not intuitive at all.

I'm referring to Sync broadcasting the sounds from my Android phone. Sync adjusts the ring volume when the phone is ringing, the notification when it's talking, the map voice when she's talking (GoogleMaps)... I don't use AA, never liked it on my old car plugged in, haven't tried it again.

In the Android Auto app on my phone, I turned "Play conversation chime" off but that still did not work...adjusting the volume did but there is a trick to it

You're right...really tough to do when you're driving. I was parked in my driveway and had my wife text me a bunch of times. What I stumbled across was when I was adjusting the audio volume and the Audio Volume note appears at the top of the screen, when she texted me that note changed to Prompt Volume...Ah Ha! I could adjust the Prompt Volume at that moment, and I do mean moment because a second later that note reverts back to Audio Volume then you are changing the radio volume.
Gotta be quick and it might take several attempts but eventually I got the chime to an acceptable level.
It would be great if there was a fixed setting where you could adjust the Prompt Volume without having to jump through hoops to do it.
Thanks to everyone for your tips and advice.

Would also be awesome to change the tone too.

Yeah, it's terribly annoying. It's odd, on my other cars, I would only get the notification if I received a text message but on the MME I get it every time I receive an email (which could be every 30 seconds). I wish there was a way I could disable email notifications and have it only apply to text messages.

Follow-up...I found it more convenient to adjust the Notification Chime volume by texting myself while sitting in my car in my driveway. But I often have to adjust it again after receiving OTA software updates. A little annoying and I wish the software update process didn't automatically reset some of my preferences back to the system default (e.g., Rear Occupant Alert, Alarm Settings, and of course Notification Chime).
