I work for a Honda dealer which also owns a Ford dealership which is where our FE is going to and I spoke to the sales manager over there to see if there is a build date yet and he said nothing in the system yet on a date and our order was around the 4800 when we reserved it last year.

I don’t understand why people act like the Ford dealers are a separate company. Ford dealers are Ford and until Ford breaks from them they are one in the same. The dealers are your interface for buying a Mach-e. If you don’t want that to be the case then buy a Tesla - they don’t have dealers.

They are separate companies. Dealership employees are not Ford employees.
But they do qualify for A plan.....

So your car is being delivered to your house and you don’t need to interface with the dealers? Of course not, you did all the leg work in the web browser but they are taking a piece of the cut and you have to deal with them. Ford corporate is the wholesale supplier and the dealers are the retail sellers. They just put up a website for you to order from to give you the impression that you are going through the Tesla model.

I may not like dealing with a dealer, but I'm not going to buy I car I do not want just because the one I do goes through a dealer.

But yes, dealerships are different companies in fact.

After a Ford dealer (Reynolds Ford, Norman, OK) kept my $500 Mach-e deposit I bought a Model Y and it’s so much better than I thought after all the Internet gossip. It’s been flawless and a head turner. If you don’t like attention, don’t get a Model Y. I have people taking pictures and conversing at red lights every time I leave the house. Unfortunately I have bought three brand new Ford Explorers in the past 15 years and I’m done with the dealers now that there is another option.

???
Not sure what your argument is.
The folks at the dealership are retailers. Ford is the manufacturer.
It is a simple concept to grasp.

Folks are acting like they aren’t buying from a dealer because they did the legwork on a website. That’s the point - you are buying from a dealer but you are just doing more of the work in this process.

Glad it worked out for you. But I'd just continue to drive my Honda until the wheels feel off rather than buying a car I don't want.

Luckily I don't need to do that now, looks like I'm getting the car I want with no dealer horror story (yet).

Franchises. Just like the majority of hotels, sports teams, and fast food places.

If the public information is to be believed, many dealers are offering home delivery and the purchase can be completed online.

Cannot confirm it will work because it hasn't happened yet, but that's the story.

The point is you still are at the mercy of a dealer, which many of us have had very negative experiences dealing with. When the dealer kept my $500 Mach-e deposit Ford said that wasn’t ethical but they couldn’t do anything about it because the dealer is who I was buying from and they would document the issue.

If you signed a purchase agreement that specified no refund of the deposit if you cancel, why would you expect it to be refunded? My purchase agreements for two Mach-Es specify that the deposit is refundable if I cancel. Simple enough.

You and I have different perspectives on dealers and that is fine. Mine is that I am not delighted by most dealers but I am delighted that I have a dealer who can help if there is a problem with the car. If they don't help, they know they are easily held accountable as a local business. I much prefer to have the dealer with this responsibility rather than the manufacturer as I have a personal relationship with the dealer and I am more important to the dealer than I am to a manufacturer. Yes, I am buying from a dealer and I expect that dealer to honor the conditions of the purchase. I much prefer that over relying only on the manufacturer.

That is a bummer about the a$$hat dealer you dealt with, and I hope all continues to go well with your Y. Humanity needs EV's to succeed, and it's been an uphill battle fought against entrenched powerful interests. Very soon those interests will find out what happens when you resist a superior technology to the death. Hint: its death.
