Today I cleared out Jolly Jumper, my Space White 2021 SR RWD. Tuesday I will get my new 2025 SR RWD in Velocity Blue and turn my old car in.

Even though I'm looking forward to my new car, with all the improvements and such, I also feel sad I have to part with Jolly Jumper. Back in 2020 I took a leap of faith with the Mach-E, nobody in the Netherlands had seen one yet, apart from some pictures on the internet. Let alone driven one. So I ordered it off paper and hoped I made the right choice for my first EV.

Boy did that pan out great! The car was, and is, awesome. Such good looks and so much character. For months I just couldn't believe I owned such an impressive and cool car. I was 48 years old and my boyhood dream of owning a sports car had finally come true. I got carried away with it's performance and handling so much that within 45 minutes of owning it I was ticketed €475 for driving it to fast and got a 2 year warning on my driver's license. Mildly repeated that stunt a month later with a €375 ticket while showing the car off to some of my colleagues...

For the last four years, every time I saw Jolly Jumper I was filled with pride. Always looking forward to the next time I would drive it. Every errand, every road trip was a joy and an adventure.

And now I'm going to part with it and that makes me sad. The new MME is going to be great, I'm sure. But that feeling of awe I had back then with Jolly Jumper is probably not going to repeat itself. Call me romantic. Call me foolish for anthropomorphizing a car, but I'm going to miss it and I'm not ashamed to say so 🐎❤

I totally get it.

Jolly Jumper will always be in your heart and mind, and with you on your journeys with the new pony car.

Take care and maybe get a lighter right foot, unless you head south to Germany and an unlimited speed stretch of autobahn!

Enjoy the new car. Maybe its name might be “Jolly Jumper Too”, or two if you prefer a number rather than a word meaning “also”. Either way, enjoy and be safe.

I’m also very sentimental about my Grabber Blue First Edition. But I’m keeping it for another four or five years because there’s nothing materially better worth upgrading to. So… problem solved for me I guess.

Good luck and happy journeys with the new car. :)

For some reason this post made me (involuntarily) think about naming my not-yet-built Mach-e. It'll be Velocity Blue; the name that popped in my head was "Blues Magoo". 'Course, with a built date of the week of 1 Sep, I ain't got nothin' yet.

It's worth the wait! Back in 2020 it took nine months for Jolly Jumper to arrive, like having a kid 😄

Yes I am, but the GT is unfortunately too expensive 😔
These days I drive (a bit) more responsible, haven't had a ticket since those first two. But I do still like to give the pony free rein every now and then.
I've driven it on the Autobahn b.t.w. and the top speed of the Select trim is 186kph, confirmed by GPS. Fun to do for a couple of minutes but it drains the battery very very quickly.

Makes me wonder...how many MME new owners have gotten a speeding ticket in their early months of ownership? I could have easily but was lucky enough to not have the cops around when I snapped my head back a few times. Ok...more than a few...but I've calmed down big time and joined the "Conserve the Juice" club. Still seem to max out at 3.8 with average at 3.0. (I blame it on the AC or heater 😀 ) It is still tempting to take corners a bit too fast but the Pony must run!

Did you consider buying out the car you already have or looking at a used GT?

Either would be cheaper than getting a new one.

I'm on a corporate full operational lease, so my employer provides me with a budget I have to stay within 🙂 A GT just doesn't fit in that budget, shame, but driving a fully featured Select completely worry free is great too.

I did consider buying out the car and go for a mobility compensation but that would mean I have to take care of taxes, insurance, maintenance, tires and 'fuel' costs myself. And since the Dutch government isn't known for its consistency regarding automotive taxes I decided against buying out the car. I'm probably paying more in the long run but peace of mind is also worth a lot.
I do have a second privately owned EV that my wife uses. When we bought it our government promised we would have years of tax exemptions, within 6 months they announced that they will axe them all next year.

i hope you enjoy your new car at least as much as the current one. The small improvements they’ve made over the years add up. 😁🐩

We have a 2024 Grabber Blue and get many comments on the color. It is now discontinued and was told by a dealer rep that buys used cars that the color increases the value of the car since many people want that color.
