Mod or McGyver?

Guys, this is my first interior mod. When I drive, I lean and rest my right leg against whatever is on the right side. I am 6’1” so I need room to bend and rest my leg. On my Escape, that was a flat surface. On the Mach E, this is an uncomfortable hard edge of the center console. So I bought a black seat belt pad, put a strip of Velcro on it, and attached it to the side of the console as padding.

looks like a good solution. I am looking for good ideas to extend the armrest a little forward.

@jhalkias, how is your mod holding up? Has it eliminated the discomfort? I didn’t realize that I rest my leg against the center console, but that edge must hit my leg just right to be causing a bruise. I think I’ll need to add some padding.

It has held up great, my only concern is the glue on the back of the Velcro but so it goes. Part of this I was thinking today too is that it is exacerbated by the lack of seat tilt too for those of us with longer legs. Couple of days I had a loaner Mach E from the dealer I really noticed not having it.

I finally got around to trying my own solution to this problem. I put a piece of pipe insulation over the edge of the center console, which seems to provide enough padding. I'm going to leave it there for a little while to make sure I like it before peeling the adhesive. If it stays in position without the adhesive, I may just completely remove the adhesive from the insulation instead.

I‘m about 5’10”. I guess it’s all in how you sit. I didn’t even realize I lean my leg against the center console until I started driving the MME with the hard edge there.

interesting. we're basically the same height. It must be tied to the seating position as you suggest.

I wonder if that's why it just wasn't a thought in the car design.

good on those of you finding a reasonable solution though. sorry you have to do that.

I am about 6'!". Part of it is probably my bad left knee. I don't have an ACL there, and some arthritis, so I tend to lean my leg on that console. In the Escape it was basically one continuous flat surface.

@generaltso I like your solution better. Primarily because then no velcro or glue and easily removed.

Yup. I ended up removing the adhesive since it stays fine without it. I haven’t made any modifications to the door side.

My left knee rests on the door speaker, and rubs on the fabric.
