If I have this correct, "the MME modem" is a Ford-provided cell connection. Is this how OTA updates are downloaded? Do I have to explicitly have the modem connectivity turned on for OTA? Who is the cell provider they use? I'm in the woods with limited connectivity.

The Hotspot discussion seems to sneak in the part about a "free limited trial". So if you want wifi in the car via the modem you will eventually have to pay. I have unlimited LTE data probably with the same LTE connectivity as the MME modem, so not much advantage.

OTA comes down through your local WiFi connection OR the Ford onboard modem. Anecdotal evidence points to AT&T being the OTA carrier. Documentation says you might get the updates faster if connected by WiFi, but OTA updates are kind of a crap shoot anyway.

The Hotspot providing WiFi may be on that same modem, but you do not have to have the hotspot service activated for the Ford connected services to work. If you already have unlimited LTE on your cell plan, there’s probably little to no benefit.
