Tonight a racoon met the front bumper of the mach E and caused some damage. I think it's limited to the black grill shutter portion of the bumper and am trying to figure out what part will fit it. Does anyone know if the GT lower active shutters will fit a select or what the differences are? It looks visually the same not sure if it's just a different shade of black or there's actually a hardware difference. I can find those for about $300 but the non gt ones seem to be $500+.

Nevermind this can be deleted. They are definitely different. And of course the select one is out of stock everywhere unless I want to overpay on ebay.

On 4/19/2024 about 10 PM, while driving north on I35, Minneapolis MN, there was an orange plastic traffic barrel laying on the freeway in a construction zone. Either blown over by the wind or hit by another vehicle. We ran into the barrel ( had no choice to avoid it because of traffic). I seemed like a minor "thump" at slow speeds but after reviewing the front grill area on Saturday, the entire shutter assembly was damaged and needs to be replaced. Preliminary estimates from the Ford dealer body shop suggests damage cost over $2000. Ugh!. There is too much fragile plastic parts in the front end of this EV or any modern car. This incident took out the shutter assembly ,range sensor and damaged the AC condensor. They call the parts upfront a bumper. That is laughable, all of the parts on the front end of a Mach E are plastic. Any obstacle collision at any speed causes damage. If this had been and incident with a 60's or 70's vehicle with a real metal bumper there would be nothing.

$2K sounds light if it includes the AC parts. I spent nearly $2K for the shutter assembly and "bumper" that it is attached to, the bottom piece (spoiler), and labor. And that was 1.5 years ago. Bet you break $3,500.

The AC condensor shows signs of being hit but AC works fine, no apparent refrigerant leak. If I pay for the repairs myself, I will probably not have them touch the AC condensor, it is an aluminum brazed design and if it doesn't leak now, it's not worth replacing. However if I turn it over the the insurance company, they will pay to have everything restored to new condition. At this point I found out I could "duct tape" the range sensor in position so the cruise control works and the collision alert system works, surprisingly!

As a retired refrigeration tech, if the system doesn't leak, leave it alone. The risk of having a leak caused by the techs replacing parts is kinda high. This AC system is poorly designed, to many connections. So if it ain't broke, don't fix it! Furthermore, no one can see a minor dent in the condensor when it is buried behind the active shutter assembly.

Well, we got the car back from the body shop after the mishap with an orange plastic highway construction barrel/marker. This minor mishap damaged the plastic shutter assembly, the front distance sensor and associated plastic parts. The invoice for the repairs was about $3k. These new vehicles, especially EVs are very expensive to repair. As I stated earlier, if this incident would have been back in the 80's with, one of my then cars with a real bumper, it would have been some rubbing compound to remove the stain on the bumper and a little "elbow grease". but it's not the same with modern vehicles.
