Home chargers and larger battery capacities/efficiencies are all part of the solution.

Had the U.S. Government not been willing to invest in Public Works projects during the Depression and the Interstate Highway System in the 50's, we'd be living in a different (and worse) country today. Massive infrastructure improvements is one of those things that isn't going to happen any other way.

timbop, the problem is it is not the taxes that are paying for it. we are borrowing from one of the most ruthless regimes that have no qualm imprisoning and killing people for a simple expression of opinion (ie. Hong Kong). Then we will be FURTHER indebted to them and can't get out of it to these financial crisis!!!

The ole adage, "don't spend what you don't have"!!!
Japan is the largest holder of U.S. debt, not China. In fact China has been trimming their U.S. debt holdings.

1st off, let me say I appreciate that we can agree to disagree in a civil manner. I wish the politicians in Washington could do the same and ratchet back the rhetoric. But You can see what money and power combination does to what I'm sure WERE good people on both sides of the isle.

"China takes the second spot among foreign holders of U.S. debt with $1.07 trillion in Treasury holdings in April 2020, just behind Japan. 2 China has trimmed its holdings and this is the lowest amount held in the last two years. It currently holds 15.5% of the foreign debt."

Yes, it does seem they have cut back; but 15%. #1 That is a very large percentage and #2 I believe my original idea is being lost. **With our current debt level; why are we trying to take on more debt? Stop the irresponsible spending. Pass a balanced budget amendment and a plan to get back to even or I dare say a surplus (if memory serves it has not been that long since a surplus....President Clinton time frame.....correct me if I'm wrong, going on memory).

We are saddling future generations with huge amounts of debt and interest payments that their monies will have to go to instead of being used for the good of the country...... I guess that is really my point.

Is there really a need for additional DC Chargers on the Interstate Highways? Does not EA advertise coverage for most of the busier Interstates? What is really needed is more DC Chargers away from the Interstates and big cities. Where I live, in Kokomo, in North Central Indiana, the nearest DC Chargers are in other cities some 40 miles away. (Indianapolis and Lafayette along I-65.)
The Infrastructure Bill money will probably go to the states, as most highway dollars do. They are gearing up now to use it. There was a recent announcement how several Midwest States, including Indiana, have agreed on coordinating their use of the funds. Apparently, this big utility announcement shows that the big utilities are seeking to cash in on something they know nothing about.
YES.

Right now, a major N/S interstate out of Ohio has ZERO DCFC from Cambridge, OH, until you reach Virginia (I77) making West Virginia basically off limits to EV's - UNLESS you drive a Tesla. This is a major roadway and not even the connector route to the East, I64 has enough charging if you go that route.

So, while there is a need for more rural infrastructure, there are plenty of gaps like this in major highways.

Not to belabor this point, but:

Whether or not borrowing makes sense is largely a function of the cost to borrow. Virtually every country borrows. Same goes for large corporations and wealthy individuals.
