A friend of mine has started a new route-finding application for EVs. I don’t have any financial connection, but do have a personal one.

It’s still new. One of the things I find interesting it that it includes a numerical and visual representation of the reliability of the charger it puts into your route. It still needs work with respect to configurability, but it might be worth investigating.

Nice. I asked it to map out a trip i'm thinking about and got a credible response.
It is still in development. For example, it needs to enable multi-destination trips.

I see. There's no way to select your battery size or efficiency. Or a way to select whether you have a NACS adapter or not. No route summary. Route planning stops showing chargers after about 250 miles. So this isn't ready to be used for route planning, maybe just searching for reliable chargers?

Do you know where the % chance of success is coming from or how that's determined?

Yeah, it’s still in alpha form. I know they plan to add multi-stop routing and longer distance routing. I think they’re thinking of recommended overnight stops at L2 chargers. I’m certain they’re looking for feedback from potential users.

My guess about % chance of success is that it’s coming from PlugShare and other apps where people can report on their success rates. I don’t know the algorithm for deciding the result—if the more recent reports are weighted more heavily, etc.

I’m not sure what you mean by this:

I can get chargers shown along a route I had planned on Google that goes from northern AZ to Seattle, WA. This includes a route summary.

Another important parameter for them to show—would be especially useful if there’s dynamic pricing.
Even better would be the likely price by the time you arrive at the charger, as well as the anticipated cost of the charge...

I sent some feedback... When mapping out a route I frequently take, it suggested a charger I've never seen before. But mapping to it, it didn't send google maps the full address, just the road and city/state. The maps pin is in the middle of the NJ Turnpike where there is no rest area.

But it would be really nice to have more competition in this space.

Hi! I'm Dave, one of the founders of roadtripAI. Thanks for giving it a whirl! Just wanted to note a few things about your experience:

1. We've been able to identify the bug you observed when building this route and are working on a fix right now. I'll message this forum again once that's rolled out. Sorry about that! It only happens for certain routes in the US, but that's a great catch.
2. Regarding how we calculate the % success, it's very similar to how @SpaceEVDriver described it. We source feedback from charging customer experiences primarily and refresh this regularly, though we are planning to incorporate actual charging session success/fail data and more in the near future. We'll be making a blogpost about this and link to it in the app for clarity.
3. We do provide charging adapter options on the vehicle selection screen, but that is only something you can access when you create an account (so we can save it for future sessions). If you did this already, it may have been too hard to spot, so we'll work on that!
4. For vehicle trims, we should have entries for most major trim types that you can search, but it's always possible we missed one. If you haven't already, there should be a link you can select when the search fails to find what you're linking for that will let you submit a request for a new vehicle to be supported.

We've got pricing data (including a prediction about the price you'll pay when you arrive at the charger) on our next list of items to implement. We'll definitely get that out soon and add that to the list of items we optimize your routes based on.

That's strange behavior indeed! If you can give me the name of the city near where you were looking, I can check on that. Some of the address data we have isn't very well-formatted and our service for putting pins on maps may have to make a best guess.
