NJ Charge Up EV Incentive

Yep - in addition. You’ll pay no sales tax and get a point-of-sale rebate off the car price at participating dealerships. I didn’t even get an inspection sticker on my MME, yet they put one on my boyfriend’s Kona EV, so unsure what is actually supposed to happen there. But no actual inspection needed.

ETA: I just looked at his sticker. It’s white and says 7-26. So I’m pretty sure he doesn’t need that sticker since he’s not going to need an inspection in 2026. Unless it’s for law enforcement purposes? Curious if other NJ EV drivers have a sticker.
I don't have sticker of any sort on my windshield. My registration card is blue stripped. My last one was brown red stripped. The dealer told me that EV is exempt from DMV inspections.

Has anyone managed to get the successfully get $2K rebate when ordering your car in advanced? I ordered mine in April and am now trying to purchase it but the dealer is trying to figure out the rebate. It makes zero sense that I should have to refuse my ordered car and buy another one to get the rebate, which is more or less what the state has incentivized me to do. Ordering after the July 6 date puts one at risk of missing out on this round of rebate funding (which went very quickly last time.)

I called a few dealers near me (North Central Jersey) to set up a test drive and one of the dealers I spoke to on the phone wanted to let me know up front that 1) they don't participate in the NJ Charge up program (he cited concerns over the state re-imbursing the dealers), and 2) they don't participate in the Ford Options financing plan. I then asked about X-plan and that was a no go as well. Since there are other dealers not far away who participate in all three (and who reportedly don't mark up the vehicles beyond MSRP) I saw no reason to work with them.

Does anyone have idea how quickly this round would go? I was trying to search around but didn't see much detail on how much is available for this year.

hard to say, but part of the reason for the 2K “soft cap” over 45K was to reduce awards to high volume Teslas. They won’t tell you that explicitly but looking at their presentation makes it obvious.

one thing you have going for—and against—you is the lack of supply. I suspect funds will last longer but you’ll also have less choice and get less $$ for most MME options.

Yeah, it went really fast last time, but no one really seems to know how long it will last this round. I wound up refusing my original premium ER Mach E order at one dealer, since the dealer wanted an additional deposit "just in case" they didn't get reimbursed by NJ. Given that I was already putting a lot down, I didn't feel good about . I also refused to pay more than MSRP (even though my dealer tried to mark it up) and wound up getting the car for face value. I didn't go to another dealer to get the incentive just to see it all eaten by ADM.

FWIW I compromised a bit to get my MME, although I don’t feel that way driving it at all now.

I wanted (1) on the lot; 2) no ADM; (3) Ford Options. I had other wants, but low supply dictated something else. X-Plan would’ve been a bonus, but nothing compared to options incentive + rebate + no ADM. watch those dealer doc fees though.

You could always email the charge up program for some of the budget info. They’re pretty responsive usually.

oh, and check the threads here for good dealer suggestions in NJ.

I had the same requirements, because I didn't want my feeling about the car to be shadowed by a feeling of being taken for a ride. I just wanted to pay MSRP and get the incentives/rebates I was entitled to. In the end that's what I did. When the dealer showed me added markup at the last minute I flipped and said I'll buy this today at MSRP but if not I will walk and find another car somewhere else. Inventory isn't so low that you can't take your business to another dealer that can give you what you want. Good luck out there everyone!

You did the right thing. One time--ONE time--I ended up signing on the dotted line when I knew I shouldn't. Regretted that for months and it tainted the entire ride (for a time). Eventually got over it, of course, and enjoyed the car. But no need to go through that if you don't have to.

I was also willing to drive a bit more to get the car and, heck, maybe even get a better equipped one and lose part of the rebate IF no other choice and at least a "fair" no ADM deal. Fortunately, I only had to drive 30 miles, but didn't get the color I originally thought I wanted.

I just purchased a RWD select today in NJ. Got the $5000 off of msrp. Although the dealer has marked up the price by $2000 quoting “market appreciation price”. So did the Ford options which knocks off another 2500. So the total discount came out to $5500. This is without adding in the federal.
RWD standard select - hard to find but the dealerships are getting one once in a while so keep an eye.

Congrats. Didn't think there were too many base selects still left, although haven't been checking the inventory much since I bought. They were definitely going fast in early July and I started to see the markups coming so I just jumped on it. It's still a heckuva deal even with the ADM.

Do you just ask about the $2500 off for the options plan? And can you payoff your options plan financing immediately after so you’re just taking advantage of the $2500 promotion? I have a deposit hold on a delivery for next month and thought I’d do a cash purchase. But if I can get $2500 off would be amazing

Thanks. Definitely only handful left. Looks like the Dealers are trying to get them from somewhere else may be out of state and mark up the prices.

Yeah, I just asked about the options plan and the dealer said that it would be $2500 off of msrp. You are good to pay off after 3 months. I’ve been told by the dealer that it takes 3 months for Ford to setup in their system. Once done we can call Ford and just pay it off.
