First, not everyone has the technical chops/courage to do an update that could potentially brick their car. Second, it’s more than just a cable. For example, I’m exclusively Apple. I would have to buy a windows PC and an expensive FDRS license (yes, I know “cheap” ones are available), and a special power supply (not just a 12V Battery tender) to even attempt it. Why should I invest over $1,000 to likely brick my car?
Cheap Windows laptops are less than Mongoose cables.

I don't know if there would be a more complex type of update than a multimodule software stack/package for ADAS.
And remember, the actual software development was accomplished many months ago and is deployed across many hundreds of thousands of vehicles successfully.

The failure has simply been to install it wirelessly and remotely, rather than local/hardwired, on a specific subset of compatible vehicles.
Seeeeems like there’s an obvious solution here. Issue a CSP allowing free service center install. Ford’s OTA problems should not be our problem.

I think you would still need a VIN specific manifest file before you could do anything with the actual Payload-files.

If the update is really so easy, why won’t Ford authorize its dealers to do it for us?
Messaging on this thread is all over the place. Some of it comes across as if "it is so simple a Caveman can do it" while others point out specific need requirements. One heck of a mess Ford has on their hands that could be resolved with a statement: starting xxx. MY21 will begin to receive BC 1.3 or is it now 1.4?

Updating the modules is easy. Getting 1.3 on a 2021 via FDRS cannot be done through FDRS alone as it hadn’t been released to any outside of a very few running beta versions.

We’re in the last few days of October. We are quite unlikely to see 1.3 in anything resembling widespread release to 2021 model year cars this year. The longer that general release takes to happen, the less likely we are to see 1.3 at all.

Does anyone know what the difference(s) between 1.3 and 1.5 is/are?
I have 1.3 and find it as annoying as 1.2 which came with the car.

Looking at 1.5 - it doesn't seem to have any advantage over the 1.3 except for the auto lane change which is automatic instead of driver approval.

Because Ford would have to pay dealers to perform the work and the OTA is "free".

Instead of “cars & coffee” meetups we may need to band together with local/regional “FDRS & coffee (and beer) meetups instead of waiting on Ford.
If anyone in Seattle with the FDRS license wants to do a BC 1.3 upgrade party, I’ll bring the beer.

Not really all over the place. The process of using FDRS is not complicated. Follow the prompts, monitor things like progress and system voltage, and all should go fine. The problem is having access to the payload files since they are authorized by VIN, so there are specific need requirements. ??

From what I have read about BlueCruise versioning, there *was* a 1.4 that was deployed to a few cars of varying years in the Early Access Program. 1.4 is kaput now and the current version is 1.3. The 2025s will come with 1.5. Most 2021s only have 1.0 available to them. Some 2021s have no version of BlueCruise available to them. ?‍♂?

Now for the obligatory: “What’s BlueCruise?” ??????

I got sick of being a Windows SysAdmin at home over 20 years ago. I’m not going back to daily/weekly updates, BSODs, continual virus crap and all the other junk needed to maintain a windows machine.

If you look for reasons to not update your car yourself, there are lots of them and they are legitimate.

But I gotta say it's been many years since the stereotype Windows smack is anything but historical banter.
