Longtime lurker, first-time poster (well, maybe not that long). Bought my new 2023 GT (Rapid Red) exactly a month ago today. I've been lurking here since a little before then, and there's been a lot of good advice and info--thanks for the help you had no idea you were giving me. :)

I've seen a lot of discussion about OTA update versions, so I thought I'd throw in my experience so far for some more data points. When I first took it home, I checked the update settings (I'm a longtime tech nerd, so yes, I really did check those settings almost right away) and it said it had started an update (4.2.1) I think that it couldn't finish for some reason, but the things it said were added in that update (a game, and something else) were already there so it must have been most of the way done; it eventually said that the update was complete. Then nothing for a while--like a week or two, then an update to 4.2.2, then in pretty quick succession, 4.2.3 and 4.2.4. There were no new features listed, so I checked online (i.e., here--thanks again!) and all of the features that came with those updates had always been in my car, so they must be things that are standard now but had to be OTAed to other owners. I noticed that I still seemed to be behind several updates behind and I started checking around (again here) and figured I was in for a drawn-out trickle of incremental updates. Just today, though, it jumped all the way to 5.1.1. I know the scuttlebutt was that people getting that update were just Early Access members, but I'm not one (I signed up--like I said, tech nerd--but not approved yet). So I guess they're picking up the pace with rolling this one out.

tl;dr: Hi, everyone--thanks for the advice. Ford seems to be casting the 5.1.1 OTA update net a bit farther.

Congratulations on your new GT! As a fellow tech nerd I can tell you the update process is different than any other device you’ve owned. You can’t check for updates, the car does this automatically every time you start the car. You also were not behind, the updates that came after 4.2.4 (.5, .6) were only for early model year 2021 cars. it’s important to know those numbers are not version numbers, but rather reference numbers. Thats why they can sometimes be delivered out of order or only to certain model years. Another good thing to know is there is no one software version. The car is made up of dozens of modules, each has it own firmware version. Most can be updated OTA, but some can only be done by a dealer. Without fords diagnostic software (FDRS) there is no way to know if everything in the car is up to date too.
5.1.1 did just start going out to non early access cars recently. The update process can be a little frustrating, mainly because you never know when it’s going to happen, but ford has made great progress on them. Side note if you are tech inclined you can’t apply to join fords beta testing program called Early Access, but they don’t let everyone in.

Congrats on the new MME GT! You've actually gotten a lot of OTA updates in the last month. I haven't gotten any updates (OTA or manually installed via FDRS) since the radio OTA in the middle of August. I haven't been keeping the modules updated via FDRS simply because there's nothing that's been coming out that really grabs me and says: "Update me!" so I'm just rolling on OTAs until I see something that I really want. ??

I got 5.1.1 yesterday, for whatever that may be worth.

Welcome to the GT family. We're pretty cool.

Also tech nerd here. I'm jealous, mine is still on 3.5.3 with no updates in site :(

Anyway, congrats on the new GT, and for delurking.
