opening trunk when locked

Is there a way to open the trunk when the car is locked. I use the key fob and everytime I go to open the trunk it won't open unless I open one of the doors 1st.

You must have the fob in your pocket within a short distance when you push the tailgate button.

Or, push the fob unlock TWICE.

Or turn off 2 step unlock in the menus, but know that all doors will unlock also. Safety concern.

In addition to the fob being in my pocket, my phone does the same or I use the key pad on the door. All three allow me to open the trunk.

I just tried to open it with the fob in my hand it won't open. Only thing that happens is the taillights go on then off.
