Pair new phone

My husband got a new Apple 16 phone and is having trouble pairing it. When you click Add Phone, it asks to delete my phone. I don't want to delete my phone. This makes no sense. Can someone help?

Additionally, today I noticed that the screen that shows the car, speed, etc has changed to white. It was always blue. Was there an update I wasn't notified about? How do I switch it back? I don't like it,

Apparently he was able to pair it last night when I wasn't there.
And he said he changed the screen to white.
