Passcode on screen never comes up

I frequently only use my phone in the car without my fob. Sometimes it recognizes me but sometimes not - about 50/50. When it doesn’t recognize me, the screen finally shows up, asking me to input my code. The number screen was always slow in coming up but now it doesn’t come up at all forcing me to start the car from my phone. Suggestions?

I thought I read that pressing and releasing the brake pedal 5 times would bring up the keyboard to enter the password. Have not tested it because PaaK is very reliable for me.

I had this happen once when my phone was dead. The brake pedal is iffy, I think it worked eventually but I was doing a bunch of other stuff too so I am not positive which actually made it finally pop up but I had to mess with it for about 10 Minutes before it actually came up.
