Use mineral spirits or kerosene, give it a few minutes to soften, and it should come off. It may also remove any wax or ceramic coating. I would NOT risk using acetone or nail polish remover. It will remove your paint. You don't say if you are referring to the glass roof or painted surfaces. Acetone might be OK on the glass roof, but I would NOT risk it anywhere on my car.

Remove what you can mechanically, then use some good, old Bug & Tar remover. It works slow and will strip wax/ceramic coating, but it doesn’t damage paint. ??

Clay bar is the best solution. Another is bug and tar remover.

I have a razor blade scraper that uses plastic blades. Great for use on delicate surfaces. I would use it with a paint friendly solvent like bug & tar remover.

Use Goo Gone. Citrus oil based. It works and won't damage the paint.

This. Melts right off. And why you should use Google vs forums for normal car things that aren't vehicle-specific..

Hand sanitizers. I have used it for years. No harm to paint or glass.

I’m sorry, I wasn’t aware that any part of detailing was vehicle specific.

THIS!

Car detailing is my hobby and I frequent a car detailing forum for professional detailers and enthusiasts. Someone posted this same question on the forum. A well respected professional detailer recommended an alcohol-based hand sanitzer to remove tree sap. However, you have to use it in a very specific way.

1) Make sure the paint is cool and parked out of the sun.
2) Place a liberal amount of alcohol-based hand sanitzer all over the sap on your paint.
3) This is a key step - allow the sanitizer to dwell on the sap for 3-5 minutes. Do not wipe it off immediately after applying. The sanitizer needs some time to break down the tree sap, so leave it alone and let it dwell. Then after 3 to 5 minutes, uses a clean microfiber towel to wipe it off.
4) For very stubborn sap, you may need to reapply and repeat 2 or even 3 times.
5) Alcohol degrades and even removes waxes and sealants, you would need to reapply your wax or sealant to the area after it has been cleaned.

I have personally used this hand sanitizer method to remove sap several times. It really works.
