I took my car on a 300 mile round trip Saturday. Knew I would need to charge at some point to make the full trip so I charged at the halfway point back up to 90% at a nice EA station. By the cars calculations I would have 50 extra miles of range when I got home. So we start back. Temperature in to start the evening drive is in the upper 60s. About 50 miles from home we hit rain. I expected some rain but this turned into torrential rain, then hail. After a few miles the temperature had dropped to the low 40s and I was driving through 2 inches of hail that accumulated on the freeway. My 50 miles of extra range began to vanish quickly. I decided to stop about 40 miles from home when my GOM was down to about 10 miles of range to spare and decided to top off at another EA station. I'm not sure how much more that range would have dropped or even vanished. Definitely not anything I would have thought about in my ICE car but added stress in the EV.
On a note as well, when I stopped to charge in the storm, it was raining really hard. I noticed as I unplugged that the small flap you open and close for the fast charging fills with water. I tried to clean it out but the rain was falling too fast be able to clear it all out. So closing that flap essentially dumps water down the two ports where the fast charger plugs in. Doesn't seem to have caused any issues but seems like a bad design.
To top it all off when I stopped, I thought about waiting out some of the rain before I charged but apparently pulling into the EA station scared a skunk that ran by and I swear he must have sprayed the front of my car. I had to get out and charge just to air out the car!
