My coworker pointed it out to me today when he was checking out my car. Looks like it was supposed to be removed (I hope, because it looks terrible and was already peeling.)

I tried pulling it off but it’s wedged between the antenna assembly and the roof. Only comes out in pieces and is looking terrible.

Anyone else have this? Is there a way to pull the antenna cover off?

That looks like the protective white film that many new cars are wrapped in from the factory. Typically the shark fin will just pop off and snap back on but I am not certain.

Very careful use of tweezers? That might get it started.

That’s what I tried at first but it seems like the cover is clamping a part of it down. So it’s not coming off cleaning since some portion of it is pinched in. Just rips and tears out and the little fragments are stuck.

Your best bet is to have the dealer address it. It should have been caught on the PDI (pre-delivery inspection). To do it right the antenna most likely needs to come off to cleanly remove that plastic

My purchase dealer is 600 miles away unfortunately, but I’ll try calling a local dealer and see if they have any tips.

You can go to any dealer to have it fixed, you don't have to go to the purchase dealer.
This… if a dealer doesn’t want to help you with this, they’re probably not going to be too keen to help you with any other issues that arise either.

This is a good way to meet your local dealership service department and decide if they are the service department for you.

First time poster so apologies if resurrecting an old thread is considered bad form.

However, I had exactly this same issue with film under the shark fin on a 2021 Mach-E that we bought second-hand last year. And I thought my experience might help others who come across this thread.

I noticed the white film (exactly the same as in the photos @Chainspell posted) a few months after purchase and mentioned it to the (not very local) dealer who we'd bought the car from. He said it was likely to be protective film that hadn't been properly removed during the PDI and that I could probably pull it out carefully with tweezers.

Before I got a chance to try that, I took it to a different (more local) dealer to see if they could sort it for me under warranty. They said I'd done the right thing bringing it to them because the correct way to remove the film was to remove the roof lining and then remove the shark fin to get the film out.

They said if I'd tried to just pull the film out then I would probably have damaged something.

So they have dealt with it and the film is gone. But it got me thinking....

Did they *really* need to remove the shark fin (and hence the roof lining too)?

And, if so, does that mean that every Mach-E is supposed to have its roof taken apart as part of the PDI? That seems unlikely given that it is apparently a fiddly job that takes an hour or so to do.

This is definitely an old thread! I don’t even have that ‘21 Mach E anymore! But it’s interesting this issue is still popping up in the second hand market.

The film was very difficult to remove without loosening the shark fin, it was sandwiched very tightly and just shredded when trying to squeeze it out. I did end up taking it to a local dealer (now my main dealer) who took care of it for me no questions asked.

To me it did not seem like it was a forgetful removal of the film upon delivery but more of an improper application of it that in some ‘21s. I’ve not heard of it happening in more recent model years.

Although I have not had this issue, I swear on my ice Mustang that thing just slid backwards and snapped off does not make a lot of sense to remove the roof or whatever to get that thing off, I know my Nissan just slid backwards and you could look underneath it.

Do you think maybe the film was meant to be applied to the car AFTER the fin was fitted and perhaps there was a batch where they messed up and applied the film BEFORE fitting the fin?

You may well be right about the ICE Mustang..... but, to be fair, the only thing an ICE Mustang and a Mach-E have in common is the badge. ?

The service tech who sorted my one out seemed quite definite about the fact that the fin had to be removed and the only way to do that was to remove the roof lining inside the car.

That’s a possibility or something similar like that specific film is only in place during a certain production step and never supposed to reach the customer at all.

Looking at the ford part it doesn't appear to have a removeable cover so I wonder if it mounts with 3m body molding tape.
