13.7 in the 1/4 for the Mach 1? Ouch, needs a driver mod.

I do wonder what the altitude was for this race though. That 2.0 turbo Cayman shouldn’t be beating up on the Mach 1 nor GT4 at sea level. Does also show from a dig how automatics win drag races.
The runway they film at is probably going to be no more than around 300 /400 ft above sea level, of course being a run way its not going to have the same results vs a sticky drag strip however that makes it a more useful real world indication IMO. It was misty out so surface was also probably damp not helping the mach-1.

As modern turbo engines are typically turned for very wide torque bands, I would need to look at the dyno graph but the cayman but at at guess it probably has around 300+lbs from 2000 rpm to 4000+ rpm, while the GT4 is really set up for higher revs so naturally took a bit to claw it back. So it is not really surprising the mach-1 only did well in the higher speed in gear pull where it could take advantage of the extra hp.

Sometimes you just feel it. Someone pulls next to you at a red light, there’s no traffic ahead and you know the guy wants to do a bit of racing. It happened today. A Porsche Cayman pulls up close behind me then moves next to me at a red light. Clear road ahead of us, the light turns green and we both punch it. First time I floored it in unbridled. I went a good three or four seconds beating him before I realized I wasn’t a teenager and just let him pass. While I had the satisfaction that I was ahead of him, I also soon realized that a few more seconds and no matter how much I pushed he would have blown my doors off because of the 5 second cap.

So while I love this car, the power cap has got to go. This car has the ability to make you feel like you’re driving both the fastest and slowest thing on the road.
While I agree the power cap has to go, you holding your foot down in a GTPE for 5 second will get you above responsible driving speeds on public roads very easily.

Not necessarily.

Only in perfect conditions do you get 5 seconds (high SOC, starting at 0 mph, battery not too hot not too cold, weather not too hot not too cold.)

Plenty of situations where the power cap shows up well before you do anything dangerous.
