Sometimes you just feel it. Someone pulls next to you at a red light, there’s no traffic ahead and you know the guy wants to do a bit of racing. It happened today. A Porsche Cayman pulls up close behind me then moves next to me at a red light. Clear road ahead of us, the light turns green and we both punch it. First time I floored it in unbridled. I went a good three or four seconds beating him before I realized I wasn’t a teenager and just let him pass. While I had the satisfaction that I was ahead of him, I also soon realized that a few more seconds and no matter how much I pushed he would have blown my doors off because of the 5 second cap.

So while I love this car, the power cap has got to go. This car has the ability to make you feel like you’re driving both the fastest and slowest thing on the road.

That’s funny that a Cayman would challenge you at a stop light, those have always been pretty slow in a straight line as far as Porsches go. Beast in the canyons, but nothing special in a straight line for a performance vehicle.

Lol had a similar experience with a BMW M4 today.

He went around traffic to get next to me. So we both slowed to about 25 mph. I could hear him dropping gears to get ready. I kept waiting to let him go first (you know, instant tq advantage and all). But he wouldn’t so I went and he chased. Just a short spurt but still fun.

Of course we all know what would happen if we hit real speeds.

Cayman GTS’ and GT4s are in the low-mid 3s to 60 with the PDK and 11s in the 1/4 at 120+ mph. They’re not your father’s Cayman anymore.

Hey mid engine cars are unique and fabulous to drive. I sold my Cayman S after having a kid but it’s still the best replacement to the Toyota MR2 for those like me who loved it.

Keeping it mustang themed ;) some visuals for you

13.7 in the 1/4 for the Mach 1? Ouch, needs a driver mod.

I do wonder what the altitude was for this race though. That 2.0 turbo Cayman shouldn’t be beating up on the Mach 1 nor GT4 at sea level. Does also show from a dig how automatics win drag races.

100%. I had 3 MR2s back in the day and there's a Cayman GTS in my future at some point.
