With a first snowfall this year and this being my first winter with my MME, I'm looking for a charging plug port cover. Anyone has recommendations. Do magnetic adhesion covers work?

Magnetic will not work. The panels are aluminum.

Cover isn't really needed. Rod lives in snow country and he doesn't have issues.

Oh I get it!!! Using a charger outside and the ice and snow gets on the covers and it won’t close due to ice and snow build up. Great idea using a cover. Next winter my work may have charge stations available. We get freezing rain here quite often. A cover may be needed.

I had the latch ice up once. Very frustrating since I couldn't close the door. Then I remembered I had some lock de-icer - from the 80s! I even found it immediately, to my great surprise. A little squirt and all was well.

I just use a small rag to cover the charger while plugged in. We do the same thing with our 4XE Wrangler (which has been on a recall not to charge it for like 2 years lol). Be nice if there was like a pass through fabric deal to use for cold climates.

I couldn’t get the charge door open on the 4XE last month and got a reminder from the wife I didn’t plug hers in when I left for work. Little did she know it was frozen & I didn’t feel like fiddling with it before work. So no juice for her lol.

It’s the ice build up (and the frustration of being unable to close the latch) I’m concerned with. Lots of snow and icing rain in this part of Quebec.

Back in January I was on a business trip and charged overnight at the hotel. The following morning my car was stuck at the hotel due to icing while charging. I could not remove the charge connector!

Luckily a colleague was also there and could take me in his truck to the work location.

I waited until the next morning for it to thaw enough to remove but it was still stuck. This side of the car faced East and so the other side of the car thawed in the prior afternoon, but not this side. So then I took a coffee cup of hot water (snagged from the hotel breakfast area) and poured that over the handle and it then could be removed.

I heard that Tesla ports have a built-in heater. I hope Ford considers adding that in the future. This was annoying.

Market opportunity here.....someone needs to step up! Amazon full of ones that require steel body panels.

Meanwhile, though not optimal, you could pop the frunk and place a sheet of some waterproof material (of sufficient thickness to be held in place during blowing winds) and close the frunk down on it. After plugging in, to charge, draw the material down over the open hatch and wrap it around the plug and cord and secure it in place with a tie of some sort.

Once you find a material that works well you might consider a method (duct tape, for instance) to better secure one end of it inside the frunk. Then you'd just pop the frunk and pull the flap out. Close the frunk and wrap and secure it around the charge cord to cover the hatch and adaptor.

It won't look any worse than many shown on Amazon.

Good luck mon ami!!

The hot water was the right solution.

That heater function is something brand new to Teslas and is not a bad idea at all.
