Positioning requirements for using Tesla Superchargers

I decided to check how the Tesla supercharging experience will be this morning. I stopped by an empty supercharger. It turns out you have to position the Mach E very close to the supercharger to have enough slack in the cable as to not stress the adapter and the charging port on the car.

Note where my splitter is in relation to the supercharger. For the closer photo I would have to be even closer as there still would have been too much torque on the adapter and charging port.

I’ve been thinking about this, but a lot will depend which stalls the Teslas take. If they all lineup to one side a supercharger as they do in Europe, it’ll be much easier for the non-Tesla vehicles to grab a stall.

If the Tesla line up at every other stall like they do here in the US, it’d be hard for a CCS vehicle to grab the ‘correct’ stall…..bc the ‘correct’ may already be taken by the Tesla. You will not know until to arrive at a station.

I rented a Tesla last fall and charged at a busy SuperCharger in Florida. I had to wait for about 10-15 minutes. If I was in my Mach, I would have occupied one stall and had to wait for the adjacent one to open. A Tesla would like see the vacant one and pull in only to find out I was using it. My plan is to use the new NEVI chargers and SuperChargers only when I have to as to avoid this situation.
